A tournament in Florida has just crushed its own guarantee almost three times over with a field you usually only see at the WSOP.
The WSOP may have just missed on breaking records but live poker continues to boom after the pandemic and a massive event has formed in Florida.
The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Hollywood is currently hosting a $400 buy-in event that has attracted a staggering 7,703 entries.
That is a $2,541,990 prize pool and one of the remaining 17 players is going to turn their four hundred bucks into a first prize of $308,979.
This is a new record for Florida poker and easily beat the previous 2021 record of 6,196 entries last year. No word on how many unique entries there were but it was still a remarkable attendance.
Just $1 million was guaranteed in this event (2,500 entries needed before rake taken) which has shown that pent up demand for live poker is perhaps even bigger than the experts in the industry imagine.
