Baylor Bears Betting Analysis

Baylor’s rise back to the top of the college basketball rankings is even more impressive when you consider the talent they lost. Gone from their National Championship team are their top-two scorers Jared Butler and Davion Mitchell, as well as prominent contributors MaCio Teague and Mark Vital.

Arizona transfer James Akinjo has stepped in to give them 10 points and 6 assists per game, while LJ Cryer is pacing the offense with 14.6 points a night. Freshman guard Kendall Brown is contributing over 12 points per game, while returning big men Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua and Flo Thamba have dominated down low.

The Bears have already beaten Michigan State and Stanford, while last time out they took down #6 Villanova. The Wildcats entered the game ranked sixth in offensive efficiency per KenPom, and Baylor promptly held them to 36 points.

The country’s number one team yielded a minuscule 22.2% field goal percentage, while forcing 13 turnovers. The Bears rank third in scoring defense, 11th in opponent effective field goal percentage, while forcing turnovers at the nation’s fifth highest rate.

Offensively, they put up a season-low 57 points against Villanova, but the Wildcats do boast a top-20 defense per KenPom. For the season, Baylor is averaging 81 points per game, and ranks top-13 in assists, made field goals, and total rebounding.

Oregon Ducks Betting Analysis

Oregon meanwhile, snapped a two-game losing streak last time out. They took down Portland 96-71 led by N’Faly Dante’s 20 points, and 9 rebounds. Four Ducks reached double-figures in total, including De’Vion Harman who added 17.

Oregon never trailed in the game, and build a 14-point halftime lead by shooting a blistering 60% from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

The Ducks held the Pilots to 38.2% from the field, while forcing 13 turnovers, and dominating on the glass. Oregon was plus-13 in the rebounding department, and outscored Portland 54-14 in the paint.

The Ducks come into Saturday’s game averaging 70.7 points per game, while ranking 91st in effective field goal percentage. Defensively, the performance versus the Pilots appears to be an outlier. Oregon ranks 135th in scoring defense, 274th in opponent effective field goal percentage, and 151st turnovers forced. They’re going to need a Herculean effort to slow down this version of the Bears.

Baylor vs Oregon Betting Analysis

Baylor has an average score margin of +26.9 this season, the second best mark in the country. Seven of their nine wins have come by at least 21 points, while eight of their victories are by at least 12. Not surprisingly, they’ve been cashing ATS tickets left, right and center. They’ve covered in three straight games, and are 6-3 against the spread overall.

The Ducks on the other hand appear to be severely overmatched. They don’t have the offense to keep pace with Baylor or the defense to slow them down. Oregon has played three top-50 teams so far, losing each matchup by an average of 24.3 points. To make matters worse, they’re 3-8 against the spread this season. Lay the points with the Bears.

Pick: Baylor -8 (-110)
