Fabian Gumz Wins 2024 World Poker Tour Prime Slovakia

Fabian Gumz topped a field of 732 entries that turned out to Card Casino Bratislava for the 2024 World Poker Tout Prime Slovakia championship event, securing his first WPT Prime title and the top prize of €117,980 ($125,902 USD. That sum includes a $10,400 buy-in for the 2024 WPT World Championship taking place this December at Wynn Las Vegas.

This was the fourth-largest payday of Gumz live tournament career. His top score came back in 2019, when he finished second in the WPT Rock & Roll Poker Open main event for $353,380. He now has more than $1.8 million in lifetime tournament earnings.

This event ran from April 11-15. The 732 entries accumulated across the six starting flights built a final prize pool of prize pool of €702,720 ($747,121 USD), easily surpassing the €500,000 guarantee. The top 95 finishers made the money, with five-figure USD payouts going to the final 12.

The final day began with Andras Matrai in the lead among the remaining nine contenders, while Gumz sat in third chip position. Gumz scored his first knockout of the final not long after two-time bracelet winner Emil Bise (6th – $24,847) was sent packing. Gumz made the nut flush with A-K suited to eliminate Iulian Tataru (5th – $32,409). He then came from behind with A-5, making a straight on the river to best the A-J of Andras Matrai (4th – $43,212) after the chips went in preflop.

Maor Zaharagi knocked out Jozef Cibicek (3rd – $57,257) to set up the final heads-up showdown for the title. Gumz held nearly a 3:1 chip lead to start, and was able to extend that advantage in the early going. In the final hand, Zaharagi shoved from the button for 11 big blinds with A3. Gumz called with Q10 out of the big blind and the board ran out J10367 to give Gumz a winning pair of tens. Zaharagi took home $77,783 as the runner-up.
