Probable Pitchers

Anthony DeSclafani (13-7, 3.17) is expected to start for the Giants while making the first postseason appearance of his career. The Dodgers will go with a bullpen game, though Tony Gonsolin (4-1, 3.23) is likely to be the bulk innings pitcher.

The Dodgers could also go with Walker Buehler (16-4, 2.47) on short rest.

DeSclafani vs Gonsolin

13-7 Record 4-1
3.17 ERA 3.23
3.92 xERA 3.68
1.09 WHIP 1.34
3.62 SO/W 1.91

DeSclafani finished the regular season strong by going 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA in six starts in September/October. He pitched five shutout innings in his last start against the San Diego Padres on Oct. 1, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out three.

The Dodgers have given DeSclafani fits. He is 0-3 with a 7.33 ERA in six starts against them this season and 1-8 with a 5.84 ERA in 12 career starts. At Dodger Stadium, he has a 1-2 record and 3.90 ERA in five outings.

The Giants had a 21-10 record in DeSclafani’s starts during the regular season and he registered 15 quality starts. He is 5-4 with a 5.22 ERA in 17 road starts and 11-4 with a 2.55 ERA in 23 starts in night games.

Gonsolin was limited to 15 appearances, including 13 starts, in the regular season because of shoulder problems.

He went 3-0 with a 3.67 ERA in his last seven games (six starts) and has not lost since July 19 against the Giants. That is his only loss of the season, and he is 0-2 versus San Francisco with a 4.32 ERA in three career games (two starts).

Gonsolin is 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA in eight road games (six starts) and 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA in 11 night games (10 starts). The Dodgers had a 9-4 record in his starts during the regular season, but Gonsolin did not pitch more than 5.1 innings in any of his outings.

Gonsolin has struggled in the postseason, going 0-2 with an 8.68 ERA in four games (three starts).

Gonsolin and the Longball

No Giants player has more than four plate appearances against Gonsolin. However, Wilmer Flores, Kris Bryant and Buster Posey have all homered off him.

Batting Averages vs Starting Pitchers

Chris Taylor .250 Steven Duggar .000
Mookie Betts .250 Austin Slater .000
Cody Bellinger .083 Donovan Solano .000
Billy McKinney .000

Will Smith has been tough on DeSclafani, going 6 for 12 (.500) with a double and two home runs.

Cody Bellinger is just 1 for 12 with a double and four strikeouts.

Giants second baseman Tommy La Stella is questionable for Game 4 after leaving Monday night’s game with left Achilles tightness.

Giants-Dodgers Pick

The Giants have won 12 of 22 meetings with the Dodgers this season, including the NLDS, and are 7-4 in Los Angeles. That comes after the Dodgers won the season series four years in a row from 2017-20, going 39-28.

In Game 3, Evan Longoria’s home run off Dodgers ace Max Scherzer in the fifth inning stood up as the game’s lone run. Alex Wood, Tyler Rogers, Jake McGee and Camilo Doval combined on a five-hit shutout.

The Giants have the momentum, but it is difficult to ignore DeSclafani’s awful track record against the Dodgers. Look for Los Angeles to find a way to win this game and send the series back to San Francisco for a decisive Game 5 on Thursday.

The Pick: Dodgers moneyline (-142)
