The Cinderella Run
It truly is remarkable just how far Armani has come in GSL Season 3. Making the quarterfinals was already a surprise but he continues to keep the dream alive as he’s now in the semifinals against Maru.
It is worth noting that although Armani has earned his spot in the final four, he still has yet to face a truly tough opponent. His road to this point, although impressive, has been easier than most. That all changes as he now has to defeat Maru for a spot in the final.
Meanwhile, Maru made a statement in the quarterfinals as he pulled off an upset over Trap who had been playing incredibly up to that point. Maru put an end to Trap’s tournament with a convincing 3-1 victory and now he’s heavily favored to be in the finals at -1200.
Although there isn’t much value at -1200, it’s difficult to see Maru losing here after an incredible run at the King of Battles. His playoff run at KoB included wins over INnoVation, Clem, and Cure. Even though Armani is playing some of the best Starcraft of his life, Maru will be too tough of a test. Armani’s Cinderella run will likely meet it’s end thanks to Maru. It’s not exciting to bet on Maru here, but an upset really is unlikely.
Pick: Maru (-1200)
Season 2 Rematch
TY and Stats both qualified for GSL Season 3 by making it to the semifinals of GSL Season 2, and they once again find themselves in the final four. Just like in Season 2, TY and Stats will face off in the semis, and last time it was Stats who moved on with a 4-2 win.
Both of these players are more than capable of winning GSL. TY actually won it all in Season 1 and has only dropped a single game in season 3. He swept DongRaeGu 3-0 in the quarterfinals and has a chance to get revenge against Stats.
Although Stats was pushed to the limit by INnoVation in the quarterfinals, he has a chance to make back-to-back GSL finals. The concern for TY is that Stats has been beating Terran players all tournament long. He’s already defeated legendary Starcraft players, INnoVation and Maru.
As well as TY has been playing, Stats does seem to hold a slight advantage. At -200, there’s still some decent value to be had. This semifinal should be closer than the match between Armani and Maru. TY against Stats could easily go to a Game 7, but I’d expect Stats to pull it out just like he did in Game 5 against INnoVation.
Pick: Stats (-200)
