That doesn’t actually tell the whole story as we also saw one of the great recreational player performances from George Holmes, the runner-up. He played fearlessly, showed tremendous instincts and became a fan favourite at the finale. Not bad at all considering he staged a comeback from one big blind on Day 2, which he eventually parlayed into $4,300,000.
But the year belongs to nosebleed star Aldemir who put on a clinic at this final table. He may well go down as the best player to ever win the Main Event in the modern era. His career earnings now stand at $20,334,110 with his $8 million score:
