LSU has a different identity than the last two years where their defense was – in a word – horrible. Boosted by some transfers, LSU now ranks No. 9 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing only 9.2 points a game.

The strength of the LSU defense is a secondary led by Va. Tech transfer cornerback Mansoor Delane and do-everything linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. Both are almost certain first-round picks.

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin has used two quarterbacks this season. Austin Simmons was the starter when the season began, but it looks like he’s been replaced. Trinidad Chambliss has started the last two weeks and is expected to start again against LSU. He’s a better runner than Simmons and has thrown for 718 yards and four touchdowns.

The Rebels are scoring 44.8 points per game, so it’s the classic offense vs. defense match-up. Something has to give.
