It’s another road contest for the Brooklyn Nets (16-12, 6-7 road) on Monday evening as Kevin Durant heads back home for a matchup with the Washington Wizards (11-16, 8-6 home) at the Capital One Arena. The tip-off is set for 4 PM ET on NBCS-DC and the YES Network. Find the Nets vs Wizards prediction below.

The Nets are certainly trending in the right direction and grabbed a gritty 136-133 victory on Saturday against the Indiana Pacers, despite being without eight players including Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. However, they’re expected to be back at full strength here. The Wizards on the other hand are losers of six straight and were beaten by the Los Angeles Clippers most recently.

The Nets are favored by  5.5 points on Monday with moneyline odds of -225. They’ve covered in just 44.4% of their games in 2022-23. The Wizards come back at +188 and own an ATS underdog record of 6-7-2.

This is the third meeting of the campaign already between these two teams, with Brooklyn winning on both occasions.

Nets Finding Their Way

This season has been filled with drama and controversy for the Nets, from firing head coach Steve Nash to the Kyrie saga. But, it appears this group is finally finding a rhythm, going 8-2 in their last 10 games and capturing three consecutive victories.

And honestly, Saturday’s win over the Pacers meant a lot considering they basically had no regulars playing. It really showed what other guys in the rotation are capable of, putting up nearly 140 points. Cam Thomas, who carved out a nice role for himself last season, erupted for a team-high 33 points and proved that he deserves to be more involved moving forward. Patty Mills, Edmond Sumner, and Day’Ron Sharpe all posted 20+ points, too.

While Jacques Vaughn’s team didn’t shoot the ball all that well from deep (9 for 28), they imposed their will on the glass, out-rebounding Indiana 59-30 and 29-7 on offensive boards. Brooklyn also outscored them 72-42 in the paint and 37-12 on second-chance points. The Nets really showed well here with a limited squad.

Wizards Struggling

Things are looking grim for Washington at the moment, winning just one of their last 10 games and sitting towards the bottom of the league in offensive and defensive rating. Just like the Nets, the Wizards were shorthanded as well on Saturday, but the outcome wasn’t the same, unfortunately.

Playing without Bradley Beal, Rui Hachimura, Monte Morris, and Will Barton, the Wizards actually showed well in certain areas. Kyle Kuzma continued his impressive campaign with 35 points and 12 rebounds. Kristaps Porzingis also balled out for 30, 15 boards, and five dimes.

To be honest, Washington was neck in neck with LA for most of the game until some costly mistakes late in the fourth. Nic Batum hit a go-ahead triple before Porzingis missed a simple bucket that would’ve tied the game. Deni Avdija then committed a senseless flagrant foul on Paul George that sealed the deal. For Monday’s matchup, Morris is questionable, while Hachimura, Delon Wright, and Beal are out with injuries.

Nets vs Wizards Prediction

Brooklyn has all the momentum right now and their star duo is back Monday. Plus, the Nets beat the Wizards by an average of 24 points in their previous two meetings. I don’t see them having any issues covering.

Pick: Nets -5.5 (-110)
