The north end of the Las Vegas Strip is becoming a popular spot for development. Real estate development company LVXP announced plans this week for a new casino resort development in the area that might even include space for an NBA arena one day.
Plans call for the development of the 27 acres across from the Las Vegas Convention Center, adjacent to the Fontainebleau and near Resorts World casinos. According to LVXP, the site would include an expansive retail plaza, convention space, a destination casino, several luxury hotels and residences, and possibly the sports arena.
“We are honored to be stewards of this significant milestone in the city’s legacy,” CEO of LVXP James R. Frasure Jr. said. “Our commitment is to create a destination that captures the essence of Las Vegas and provides lasting benefits for the community. For me, this endeavor is more than a project – it’s a promise to uphold the spirit of innovation and enthusiasm that defines our local culture.”
Big Plans
This is the latest venture planned for the north end of Las Vegas Boulevard. Recent years have seen more development in that end of the famed stretch of roadway, including the additions of Resorts World and Fontainebleau, and the redevelopment of the Sahara.
LVXP says the multi-billion-dollar development will “create a highly immersive, technology-driven environment that seamlessly blends elegant accommodations and vibrant culinary experiences with exciting gaming options and an electrifying atmosphere of entertainment.”
The sports arena is meant to attract an NBA franchise with seating for between 18,500 and 20,000 fans. Both LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal have expressed interest in owning a Las Vegas team, as the city is frequently mentioned as a site for league expansion.
The project is expected to create thousands of jobs and generate substantial revenue for the local economy, according to the company. No timetable on the project has been given yet.
Some other projects have recently been announced nearby, including a new casino and hotel tower above the Fashion Show Mall. There are also plans to build a new tower of some sort at the current site of Casino Royale.
