Bolts Hold Value Following Loss

The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to bounce back from an ugly season-opening loss to Pittsburgh when they travel to Detroit on Thursday. Jon Cooper’s team is dealing with an early Stanley Cup hangover, but they’re excellent at bouncing back. Tampa Bay is 17-4 in its last 21 games following a home loss of three or more goals.

04/03/2021 Tampa Bay 2 – Detroit 1 TBL DET Under
03/11/2021 Detroit 6 – Tampa Bay 4 DET DET Over

The Red Wings have managed some upsets over the Bolts in recent years, but they have a lackluster roster entering the 2021-22 NHL season. The Red Wings currently sit sixth-last in the Stanley Cup odds. The team’s breakout player from last season, Jakub Vrana, suffered a shoulder injury that will keep him out indefinitely.

Lightning vs Red Wings Best Bet

Betting Tampa Bay following a loss has been a profitable betting strategy in recent seasons. Jon Cooper is an elite coach and will have his team bounce-back in a big way against Detroit. Tampa Bay only mustered 28 shots on goal against a depleted Penguins team and have too many weapons to replicate that performance Thursday.

Tampa Bay should win by at least two goals when you look at the defense Detroit will be icing. Dan Dykeser and Filip Hronek makeup the top pairing, while rookie Moritz Seider will make his NHL debut. Not to mention, goalie Alex Nedeljkovic could struggle in his first start since being traded from a strong Carolina team.

Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 (-102)

Seguin Will Spark Stars’ Offense vs Rangers

Tyler Seguin will suit up in a Dallas Stars’ season opener for the first time since 2019 when his team faces the Rangers on Thursday night. Seguin scored 33 goals in his last full healthy season and will join Jamie Benn and Alex Radulov on the top line. Dallas has won five of its last seven games against the Rangers.

Stars vs Rangers Recent Results

Date Home-Away Moneyline Puck Line Over/Under
03/10/2020 Dallas 2 – New York 4 NYR NYR Over
02/03/2020 New York 3 – Dallas 5 DAL DAL Over
03/05/2019 Dallas 1 – New York 0 DAL NYR Under
11/19/2018 New York 2 – Dallas 1 NYR DAL Under
02/05/2018 Dallas 2 – New York 1 DAL NYR Under

The Rangers played Wednesday night when they suffered a 4-0 loss to Washington. The team typically struggles when facing elite defenses, and the Stars allowed the third-fewest amount of shots in the NHL last season. Dallas added Ryan Suter this offseason to an already stout blueline featuring John Klingberg and Miro Heiskanen.

Stars vs Rangers Best Bet

The Stars will be determined to start on the right note after missing out on the playoffs last season. Getting Seguin back is just the boost they need to take advantage of a Rangers team playing the second half of a back-to-back.

The Rangers have plenty of offensive weapons, but the Stars have the defense to limit their impact. The return of Seguin and a rest advantage gives Dallas value as road underdogs against the Rangers in the NHL Odds.

Pick: Dallas Stars ML (+110)
