In July, Ohio’s casinos and racinos reported a total gambling revenue of $203.5 million, a slight decrease of approximately 2% compared to the same period last year. This figure represents the revenue retained by these establishments after paying out winnings but before accounting for state taxes and fees.
For context, in July 2022, the state’s 11 casinos and racinos collectively generated $206.7 million in revenue. While July 2023 shows a modest decline, the year-to-date figures reveal a more positive trend.
Over the first seven months of this year, Ohio’s gambling establishments have amassed $1.41 billion in gambling revenue, surpassing the $1.38 billion recorded during the same period in the previous year. These figures exclude revenue from the newly legalized sports betting market.
Breaking down the numbers, Ohio’s four commercial casinos, which offer both slot machines and table games like blackjack, reported $86 million in gambling revenue for July. This represents a decrease from the $88.7 million generated in July 2022.
For their part, the state’s seven racinos, located at horse racetracks and limited to offering slot machines, reported $117.5 million in revenue for July, slightly down from the $118 million in the previous year.

Among Ohio’s casinos, Hollywood Columbus Casino took the lead in July with $23.2 million in total revenue. It was followed by Jack Cleveland Casino ($22.1 million), Hard Rock Cincinnati Casino ($21 million) and Hollywood Toledo Casino ($20 million).
In the realm of sports betting, operators in Ohio saw a revenue jump in July. Sports wagering saw a rise from $32.7 million in June to $37.1 million in July. The 18 online sportsbooks reported $36 million in revenue, substantially outperforming retail sportsbooks, which earned $1.2 million during the same period.
Over the first seven months of 2023, online sports betting operators haev posted more than $563 million in revenue, while retail sportsbooks earned $13 million. Claiming the top spot in July was DraftKings, which partnered with Hollywood Toledo and generated $116.2 million in total gross receipts.
FanDuel Sportsbook, leading for the first six months of the year, reported $107 million in total gross receipts for July, a slight decrease from the $120 million recorded in June.
