Bruins vs Panthers History

During the regular season, the Bruins had the Panthers’ number, sweeping the four-game series. Boston won a pair of one-goal games in Florida, 3-2 on October 30th and 4-3 on March 26th. The Bruins also defended home ice, earning 3-1 and 3-2 victories in Boston on November 22nd and April 6th, respectively.

However, the script was different back in the 2023 postseason. The Panthers, who had been dominated by the Bruins in the regular season, pulled off a remarkable upset in the first round. After falling behind 3-1 in the series, Florida rallied to win three straight games, including a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory in Game 7 in Boston.

Cats Make Quick Work of Bolts

The Panthers are roaring into the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs after a dominant performance against their in-state rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Panthers made quick work of the Lightning, dispatching them in just five games and capping off the series with a decisive 6-1 victory in Game 5.

Florida’s offensive firepower was on full display, led by their dynamic duo of Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk. Verhaeghe tallied an impressive five goals and four assists, while Tkachuk contributed three goals and six assists in the series

The Panthers also received strong performances from Sam Reinhart, who scored 57 goals during the regular season, and added three more in the first round.

Between the pipes, Sergei Bobrovsky was a brick wall for the Panthers. The veteran netminder started all five games, posting a 4-1-0 record with a solid 2.78 goals-against average and .896 save percentage. While Bib’s stats don’t leap off the page, he made several timely stops to keep his team in it.

The Panthers’ success can be attributed to their relentless offensive attack and ability to capitalize on their scoring chances. They averaged over three goals per game in the regular season and carried that momentum into the playoffs

However, there is still room for improvement, particularly on the defensive end, where they allowed an average of nearly three goals per game against the Lightning.

Panthers vs Bruins Prediction

The revenge element and recent head-to-head history are a few of the only things Boston has going for them heading into this matchup. Despite advancing, the Bruins have looked fairly lifeless in several of their recent postseason games. They were significantly outplayed at five-on-five in Round 1.

Boston is a solid defensive team, but the Panthers are even better, allowing the fewest goals during the regular season. Here’s how the two teams match up (based on regular season stats):

0-4 Head-To-Head 4-0
52-24-6 NHL Regular Season Record 47-20-15
3.23 (11th) Goals For/GP 3.21 (14th)
2.41 (1st) Goals Against/GP 2.70 (5th)
23.5% (8th) Power Play 22% 14th)
82.5% (6th) Penalty Kill 82.5% (7th)
50.96% (15th) Corsi Percentage (5v5) 47% (24th)

Boston is going to be motivated in Round 2, but the Panthers are the more complete team. They had six different 20-goal scorers and five different players who hit 50 points. Boston’s next-highest scorer after David Pastrnak this season had just 67 points.

Even though the Cats lost the regular-season series, we think Florida’s depth will be the difference in this series. They are more rested and have a goalie capable of going toe-to-toe with Swayman.
