  • The San Diego Padres are -115 favorites over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday (September 15th, 9:45 pm ET)
  • San Diego will give the ball to Joe Musgrove (10-9, 2.93 ERA), while it will be a bullpen game for San Francisco

The San Francisco Giants can’t stop winning. It doesn’t matter who’s starting for them, or who’s pitching against them, they just keep getting the job done. Even after becoming the first team to clinch a playoff spot, they’re showing no signs of letting up on the gas.

Gabe Kapler’s crew will take a nine-game winning streak into action on Wednesday (September 15th) versus San Diego, looking to hand the Padres their sixth straight loss.

Padres vs Giants Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
San Diego Padres -115 -1.5 (+150) O 8.5 (+100)
San Francisco Giants -105 +1.5 (-170) U 8.5 (-120)

Odds as of  September 15th at DraftKings.

First pitch is scheduled for 9:45 pm ET at Oracle Park in San Francisco, with clear skies and 56 degree night time temperatures in the forecast.

Despite their incredible run, the Giants opened as a slight home underdog, in a game that features a total of 8.5. The main reason San Fran is not favored, is because for the second time in three nights they’ll throw a bullpen game. That shouldn’t discourage Giants backers however, as no bullpen in baseball has a lower ERA than San Francisco’s.

Probable Pitchers

Just like on Monday, Dominic Leone will get the ball first for the Giants. Two nights ago, he shutout San Diego over the opening two innings of the game, scattering just a single hit.

Leone has excelled in this role with starters Alex Wood and Johnny Cueto on the injured list. He’s yet to surrender an earned run in his three “starts” holding the opposition to only two hits. San Francisco has gone on to win each of those contests, by a combined score of 21-6, while Leone hasn’t given up a run in his past six appearances overall.

Musgrove vs Giants Bullpen

10-9 Record 39-20
2.93 ERA 3.01
1.03 WHIP 1.08
.203 OBA .209
4.0 SO/W Ratio 3.1

The Padres bats enter play on Wednesday ice cold, having scored only six runs during their five-game skid. They’ve been outscored 15-2 in the first two games of this series and are hitting .169 over the past 7 days, with a minuscule .243 slugging percentage.

Joe Musgrove will counter for San Diego, fresh off taking the loss in a 3-0 defeat to the LA Dodgers. The right-hander surrendered four hits and all three runs over 6 innings, striking out seven and walking five. He’s give up three or fewer runs in four straight starts, and eight of his past nine outings, but has a miserable track record against San Francisco this season.

In two starts versus the Giants, he’s coughed up 12 hits and 10 runs over 10 innings. San Diego has lost those games by a combined score of 14-2, while multiple San Fran hitters have tore the cover off the ball against him.

Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers

Padres Batters Batting Average vs Giants Giants Batters Batting Average vs Musgrove
Austin Nola .000 Brandon Belt .429
Eric Hosmer .317 Kris Bryant .182
Adam Frazier .297 Brandon Crawford .500
Manny Machado .186 Evan Longoria .083
Wil Meyers .250 Buster Posey .000
Trent Grisham .281 Steven Duggar .429
Fernando Tatis Jr. .182 Curt Casali .400
Tommy Pham .192 Tommy La Stella .600

Brandon Belt, Tommy La Stella, Brandon Crawford, Steven Duggar and Curt Casali are all batting .429 or better versus Musgrove in a minimum of five at-bats.

Padres vs Giants Pick

The Giants have scored at least six runs in nine straight contests for the first time since 1958. The way they’re swinging, combined with how effective their relievers have been in bullpen games, makes them an auto-play at -105 odds. Of course it helps that the Padres are in a free fall and that San Diego’s bats are ice cold.

Musgrove on the mound should improve the Padres winning prospects, but there’s no reason to fade San Fran given how much success they’ve had against the San Diego righty.

Pick: San Francisco Giants Moneyline (-105)
