The final table is set in the 2024 World Poker Tour Choctaw $3,800 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event. After two starting flights and three more days of action, the field of 608 entries has been narrowed down to just six contenders, including three prior WPT main event winners.
Action was halted on Monday, May 6 after the elimination of Vladyslav Shovkovyi in seventh place ($58,000). The remaining players bagged up their chips, with action set to resume on May 30th at the HyperX Arena located in Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The final six have all locked up at least $75,000 from the $2,110,500
prize pool by making it this far. The champion will earn $361,600 for the win, and have their name added to the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.
The chip leader is James Mackey with 10,550,000. The 2016 winner of this very event will return with 84 big blinds when play resumes with 34:20 left in level 28, with blinds of 75,000-125,000 and a big blind ante of 125,000. The bracelet winner from Kansas City will be looking for his second WPT title, with a shot at growing his career tournament earnings to nearly $5 million with a win in this event.
Alaska’s Adam Hendrix bagged up the second largest stack with 8,775,000 (70 big blinds). While he has more than $6.4 million in career earnings to his name, including $431,000 in prior WPT cashes, he will be going for his first win on this tour.
Sebastien Aube’s 3,600,000 (29 big blinds) puts him in third chip position. The bracelet winner from Canada has more than $553,000 in prior cashes, with $499,636 of that coming from his title run in the 2022 $2,500 no-limit hold’em event at the World Series of Poker.
Three-time WPT champion Eric Afriat has a chance to tie the tour’s current title leader Darren Elias at four wins. The Montreal native sits with 2,875,000 (23 big blinds).
Afriat scored his first WPT title back in 2014 by taking down the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown for $1,081,184. His second victory came almost four years later in the 2018 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open for $651,928. After waiting another four years, he took down the 2020 WPT Fallsview Poker Classic to complete the hat trick, earning another $394,120 in the process. He now has more than $5.3 million in lifetime cashes, with over $3.2 million coming from his success on this tour.
The second shortest stack belongs to Danny Marx ( 2,375,000 – 19 big blinds). Marx is no stranger to winning big events at Choctaw Casino & Resort-Durant, as he won the 2022 WSOP Circuit main event at the venue for a career-best payday of $246,820. He’ll have a shot at an even larger payday when play resumes.
Rounding out the final table is two-time bracelet winner and two-time WPT champion Erick Lindgren. The 2003 Ultimate Poker Classic and 2004 PartyPoker Million III winner has more than $10.2 million in lifetime earnings, but has not recorded a six-figure tournament score since 2014. He enters this final table with 1,975,000, or 16 big blinds.
This tournament featured a $2 million guarantee, which was surpassed by over $110,000. Plenty of big names ran deep, only to hit the rail short of the final table. Among them were Nick Pupillo (18th), three-time WPT champion and four-time bracelet winner Anthony Zinno (15th), bracelet winner Larry Wright (14th), Kurt Cohlberg (11th), and two-time WPT champion James Carroll (10th).
