One of the highlights of a remarkable year for Phil Hellmuth in 2021 was his winning streak in the High Stakes Duel series. He beat Antonio Esfandiari three times, Daniel Negreanu three times and Nick Wright once.

It was only when his old rival Tom Dwan stepped up to the challenge that the streak ended. The two famously had some epic encounters prior to that match and once again Dwan won, taking $100,000 and the High Stakes Duel belt from the Poker Brat.

The two are now set to go at it again on January 26, live on

This is technically Round 3 of the latest challenge (Nick Wright was Round 1, Dwan was Round 2) and as such they will both buy in for $200,000. As per the rules of the challenge, only when one player wins three consecutive matches before Round 4 or two consecutive matches starting with Round 4 can they bank their winnings. Another challenger can step up to the plate if it is within 30 days of the last match. The stakes have to be doubled every time a new match is played.

Given Dwan is known for playing ultra high stakes and heads-up as a speciality, we probably would need to see Hellmuth win consecutive matches to bank any potential winnings.

In case you missed it, here are the highlights from the previous match between the two:
