Tritons vs Rainbow Warriors Betting Trends

Saturday night’s matchup marks the first ever meeting between these newly minted conference rivals. The Rainbow Warriors return to action sporting an unblemished 2-0 straight up record in conference play after knocking off UC Irvine 72-56 on Thursday night.

Hawaii’s two conference victories have also come while pegged as betting underdogs. However, consistency remains a concern for the Rainbow Warriors, who have yet to win three in a row so far this season. Hawaii also sports sport a middling 2-3 SU record when facing Division I opponents on home court.

The Tritons ride a two-game SU and ATS losing streak as they get set to play their first ever conference game since joining the Big West in 2020. The club is coming off back-to-back road losses to UC Riverside and UC Davis, extending their current road losing streak to seven games. They have have also failed to cover during their current road swoon.

UC San Diego Tritons Outlook

UC San Diego kept things close before recess in each of their past two outings. The Tritons took a two-point lead into halftime in last weekend’s road date with UC Davis, but quickly faded in the second half on their way to a 78-71 loss. They also trailed by just a single point at the half in their date with UC Riverside two days earlier, but came out flat after the break in a 59-51 loss.

Overall, the Tritons have averaged just 58 points per game during a seven-game road swoon. In addition to contributing to a steady 5-2 run for the UNDER over that stretch, the club has also faded in the KenPom ratings, where they sit at No. 237 overall and 232nd in adjusted offensive efficiency.

Big man Toni Rocak has averaged 15.5 points per game over his past six appearances. In addition to emerging as the team’s top scorer, Rocak has also led the squad in rebounds in four of six outings, and averaged 6.7 boards per game so far this season.

Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Outlook

The Rainbow Warriors are aiming to build on their biggest win of the season in Division I play as they get set to face UC San Diego for the first time. Hawaii faced little resistance while marching to an easy 72-56 victory over UC Irvine on Thursday night. That victory comes on the heels of the team’s 72-67 road win over Long Beach State as 2-point underdogs last weekend, and marked their third outright win as betting underdogs so far this season.

Things have not gone so well for the Rainbow Warriors while favored at the sportsbooks. The squad dropped a 76-69 decision to UIC as 3.5-point home chalk on Christmas Eve, and has covered just once in their past six overall as betting favorites.

Limited to just five game appearances this season, Bernardo da Silva showed no signs of rust in Thursday’s win over the Anteaters, scoring 16 points and adding 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Noel Coleman has also averaged 22.8 points per game while cracking double digits in five straight outings.

Tritons vs Rainbow Warriors Prediction

While the Tritons are likely to be highly motivated to perform in their Big West Conference debut, overcoming their recent road woes represents a huge challenge. The team’s tendency to fade after recess does not bode well against a Rainbow Warriors squad that has won four straight conference contests on home court.

The Picks: Rainbow Warriors -6 (-110); UNDER 140.5 (-110)
