On Thursday, Dec. 18, 2024, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) released a statement outlining its plans for 2025. The premier annual poker tournament series in the world is returning to Las Vegas from May 27 to July 16. All events during the 56th annual WSOP will be held at the Paris Casino and Horseshoe Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

The 2025 World Series of Poker will take place May 27 – July 16

Main Event Information

Blue Info Button

The Main Event of the 2025 WSOP will begin on July 2 with the final table scheduled to run on July 15 – 16. Though the communique from the WSOP was rather light on details, this is the same number of days that the 2024 Main Event occupied thus implying that the structure will be similar.

The 2024 Main Event featured four separate starting days followed by two Day 2 fields. Starting from Day 3, the remaining players were combined into one field that played through to Day 8, which ended with just the final table remaining. Days 9 and 10 saw the final table play out until a winner was determined: Jonathan Tamayo of Las Vegas.

We can expect a similar schedule to be replicated in 2025 for the $10,000 Main Event.

About the Venues

Building

The Paris and Horseshoe casinos are both owned by Caesars Entertainment, the organizer of the World Series of Poker. These two venues are connected to each other, making it easy for players staying at both properties to participate in events being held at either one.

The next WSOP will be the fourth consecutive one held at the Horseshoe and Paris casinos. The series was moved in 2022 from its previous home, the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Though the Rio had hosted the WSOP since 2005, players were generally dissatisfied with its out-of-the-way, off-Strip location and the accommodations available. By almost all accounts, the new WSOP home at the Paris and Horseshoe casinos in the center of the Strip was a vast improvement.

Curiously, Caesars sold the intellectual property rights for the World Series of Poker in October 2014 to NSUS Group for $500 million. Nevertheless, Caesars retains the right to host the WSOP for the next 20 years, so it’s not clear what, if any, impact this transaction will have on the live poker experience of series participants. NSUS Group is the parent company of GGPoker.

Events

Calendar

The WSOP statement was not clear on the specific events that will be featured in its 2025 poker festival. A more detailed schedule is expected in early 2025.

The Mystery Millions, Millionaire Maker, and Senior’s Championship were listed as events that are set to run again. “New, exciting tournament formats” are promised as well.

Last year’s series featured 99 live bracelet events, and depending on the number of “new, exciting tournament formats” added, 2025 could be the first year with a triple-digit number of bracelets awarded. The Main Event could also see new records established as it surpassed all previous marks for number of entrants in both 2023 (10,043 players) and 2024 (10,112 participants). 2024’s Main Event champion took home a $10 million prize, and a similar figure is expected for the victor in the upcoming series.

In addition to the 99 bracelets for live poker tournaments, 2024 saw 37 online bracelet events take place at the WSOP Online cardroom. The trend has been toward an increasing number of online events each year, so we could see this increase to 40 or more in 2025.

The CEO of the WSOP, Ty Stewart, opined:

Each year allows us to refine further and improve the WSOP offering, and 2025 will be no exception. Expect the biggest poker events on the planet, the best action and the most intense competition as we once again welcome tens of thousands of poker enthusiasts eager to experience the magic of the WSOP.

Official Satellites

Satellite Structure

We can expect official satellites for WSOP events to run over the internet in the regulated states of Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, which are the states in which WSOP Online operates. International players can look to GGPoker for WSOP satellites. GGPoker sent 1,000 players to the 2024 Series, and we foresee that this number will grow in 2025.

We can also expect the return of Main Event Maynia for 2025. This is a series of qualifying satellites for the WSOP Main Event held in live cardrooms around the country, like Turning Stone Resort Casino in central New York.

In addition, many offshore internet poker sites take advantage of ambiguities in the rules of the WSOP to run their own satellite tournaments. For instance, ACRPoker distributed 40 prize packages, worth $12,500 apiece, for the 2024 WSOP Main Event, and it gave the winners the choice of either attending the event or keeping the cash. Therefore, you will likely have the chance to win your WSOP entries for less even if you live in a part of the country that does not have state-licensed online poker.

Room Rates

Caesars is providing special room rates for their players who wish to book accommodations during the WSOP with the promo code WSOP25. This includes not just the Paris and Horseshoe Casinos but also many other Las Vegas properties within the Caesars portfolio, like Caesars Palace and the Flamingo. The code is valid for bookings from May 26 through July 16.

Practice Online Today

As befits its nature as the most prestigious poker event of the year, the World Series of Poker tends to feature high buyin amounts of $1,000 to $10,000 and even more for a few high-roller tournaments. However, you can practice for these events online with tournaments that are much less expensive. With some luck, you could even win your WSOP seat for much less than the sticker price.
