A change of schedule, a player cap introduced and a Day 1 cancelled all in the first week of the World Series of Poker Europe.
After a lot of concerns about dealer shortages and the pandemic, the WSOP went quite smoothly under the circumstances. The same might not be true for the WSOPE.
Yesterday Day 1A of the €550 Colossus was cancelled due to the large number of players and staffing issues. This is a multi flight event which goes all the way to Day 1G, so it is not quite as impactful as if it had been the typical two starting days.
There is now a 500 player cap on each Day 1 as a result.
This looks like the inevitable double whammy of the global skills shortage that has been prevalent since the start of the pandemic as well as likely the ongoing impact of COVID. Most of mainland Europe looks like it is heading towards further lockdowns this winter. This comes after the WSOPE had to change its rules on vaccination status last week.
The WSOPE schedule has also been changed at short notice, perhaps to adjust to these new circumstances.
