Why Aaron Donald Comeback Odds Are Climbing

Los Angeles traded for Myles Garrett last month, and the market woke up right after. Donald texted Pat McAfee that the move “got me thinking.”

The football logistics are easy to understand. Donald spent most of his career eating double and triple teams because nobody else on that line scared anyone. Garrett would take a lot of that attention off him.

The Rams are the Super Bowl odds favorites, and the location would be perfect. Super Bowl LXI is being played at SoFi Stadium, Donald’s home field. If he ever needed extra motivation for one more run, a title shot in his own building would do it.

Donald’s Rams Facility Workout Moved the Market

The Garrett trade started moving the Donald comeback odds, but his recent workout sent the price soaring. TMZ Sports filmed Donald at the Rams facility on July 10, where he spent about an hour on ladder drills, medicine ball throws, and agility work while wearing pads.

An eyewitness said Donald appeared gassed while walking off the field. Retired guys stay in shape all the time, but they don’t usually put pads back on for it.

Adam Schefter followed up on McAfee’s show with his own read on the situation. His prediction is that Donald ends up back with the Rams.

The Case Against an Aaron Donald Return

Not everyone is buying this Donald comeback, though. Peter Schrager reported Tuesday that the Rams and Donald haven’t discussed money yet, and that’s a big hole in a market priced this high.

Schrager also said Donald wants to play a full season if he comes back. His words were that Donald won’t return as “some 30-cent-on-the-dollar version” of himself.

The bar gets raised on both sides when serious money is involved. Donald has to prove to himself he can still handle 17 games at 35 after two years away, and the Rams have to pay full price for a player who hasn’t been hit since 2023.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler also pointed out that Donald has used the Rams’ facility throughout his retirement. Fowler believes that the workout alone doesn’t mean much.

Aaron Donald and the Training Camp Deadline

Rams veterans report on July 25, so the next two weeks should tell us plenty. If padded practices start and Donald still hasn’t signed, that 82% number gets harder to defend.

The counter is that Donald doesn’t need camp to cash a YES ticket. A late-season signing works just as well for anyone holding those contracts.
