Driven by increased betting activity during the FIFA World Cup, Argentina’s Customs and Revenue Control Agency (ARCA) collected ARS 71.828 billion (USD 48.2 million) in indirect taxes on legal online betting and gaming during the first half of 2026.
According to consultancy Analytica, the figure represents a year-on-year increase of 35.5%. June alone, the month the World Cup began, generated ARS 13.656 billion (more than USD 9 million), the highest monthly total of the year so far. The report found that tax revenue collected in the first six months of 2026 already amounts to nearly 77% of the ARS 93.658 billion (USD 62.6 million) collected throughout all of 2025.
Based on ARCA tax statistics and Analytica’s analysis, June’s collections rose 35.5% in real terms compared with the same month last year. Monthly revenue has followed a steady upward trend throughout 2026:
- January: ARS 10.951 billion (USD 7.32 million)
- February: ARS 11.054 billion (USD 7.39 million)
- March: ARS 10.957 billion (USD 7.33 million)
- April: ARS 12.498 billion (USD 8.36 million)
- May: ARS 12.712 billion (USD 8.50 million)
- June: ARS 13.656 billion (USD 9.13 million)
According to Argentine newspaper El Cronista, legal betting platforms licensed in the City of Buenos Aires processed deposits of just over ARS 50 billion (more than USD 33.4 million) between January and the World Cup final. The publication also reported that betting activity increased by 80% during the tournament.
From January through the World Cup final, the number of players using legal betting platforms authorized to operate in Buenos Aires also increased by 21%. Average daily deposits rose sharply as well, climbing from ARS 1.4 billion (more than USD 936,000) before the tournament to ARS 2.6 billion (USD 1.7 million) during the competition.
