- The BetMGM brick-and-mortar sportsbook at Nationals Park will close this weekend
- The sportsbook at the ballpark will close on Sunday, Sept. 28
- BetMGM will remain as a sponsorship partner with the Washington Nationals
Washington, D.C. sports betting will be down one less brick-and-mortar sportsbook after this weekend.
A BetMGM spokesperson confirmed its brick-and-mortar sportsbook at Nationals Park, home of the Washington Nationals, will be closing this weekend. The final day the sportsbook will be open is Sunday, Sept. 28.
It is the second brick-and-mortar sportsbook at a Washington, D.C. professional sports franchise arena or stadium to close this year.
First Sportsbook Connected to MLB Stadium
The BetMGM sportsbook at Nationals Park opened on Jan. 31, 2022, and was the first sportsbook to be connected to an MLB stadium. It took its final bet several days ago on Sunday, Sept. 21.
The last day customers can cash tickets will also be on Sunday, Sept. 28. The news was first reported by @TalkNats on the social media site X. It was then confirmed by a BetMGM spokesperson and announced on the sportsbook’s official website.
BetMGM will remain a corporate sponsor of the Washington Nationals moving forward, however.
The BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park was open year-round and featured 40 big-screen TVs with live odds boards that updated as the action progressed. The sportsbook featured six betting windows for customers and a number of kiosks to place bets.
Despite the retail sportsbook’s closure, BetMGM did the vast majority of its sports betting business through its online sports betting platform in the district.
Second Retail Sportsbook to Close this Year
The BetMGM sportsbook is the second brick-and-mortar sportsbook attached to a professional sports franchise stadium or facility to close this year. In February, the FanDuel Sportsbook at Audi Field, home of the district’s MLS and NWSL teams, closed its doors to the public.
The FanDuel sportsbook opened in 2021 and featured live self-service betting kiosks and betting windows for customers.
Only one brick-and-mortar sportsbook associated with a professional team and arena is still open to the public in Washington, D.C. The Caesars Sportsbook at Capital One Arena, home of the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals, is still open year round.
The sportsbook opened at the arena in May 2021, originally the William Hill Sportsbook, before transitioning to the Caesars Sportsbook.
