The final 1st Round NBA Playoffs series to tip is the Blazers vs Spurs in the West’s 7 vs 2 matchup. Game 1 goes down tonight, wrapping up the Sunday postseason quadruple-header, with San Antonio laying double-digit points in the NBA odds.

I’m avoiding the moneyline, spread and total markets all together for this matchup, instead choosing to focus on player props. Victor Wembanyama will be the most heavily bet player tonight, but I’m looking to wager on his teammate Stephon Castle instead. Castle is one of my two Blazers vs Spurs Game 1 player props to target, so keep reading for the reasons why and the rest of my picks.

Castle over 7.5 assists is my top NBA props bet tonight, as I’m looking to ride his red-hot form in what should be a fast paced matchup against Portland. I’m also looking to bet the over on Donovan Clingan’s points + rebounds + assists, as the 7-footer is going to need to log heavy minutes to slow down the alien known as Wembanyama.

I’ll start with Castle, who has emerged into one of the NBA’s most exciting young guards and is a big reason why San Antonio is a popular bet in the NBA Championship odds. Castle finished sixth this season on an assist per game basis, but he significantly increased his output down the stretch. The 21-year-old dished out 10+ assists in four of his final seven regular season games, clearing 8.5 assists in six of those outings. Since the All-Star Break, he’s averaging 8 assists per start, and over the last 18 games he’s bumped that number to 9.1 dimes per night.

Stephon Castle Stats vs Blazers This Season

Of course it helps having Wembanyama to feed in the post, but Castle racked up a ton of playmaking production even in games when his freak teammate sat. He averaged 9 assists against Portland this season, and given the stakes of tonight’s game, we should be able to pencil him in for more playing time than his typical 30 minutes per contest.

If that wasn’t reason enough to bet him, the Blazers play at a top-10 pace, while San Antonio isn’t far behind at number 12. This game is going to be a track meet, with both teams racing up and down the floor, giving Castle plenty of opportunities to find open teammates off the break.

As for Clingan, the 22-year-old’s been a double-double machine lately, going for 10+ points and boards in four of his last five outings. The 7-footer has a sneaky smooth stroke from beyond the arc, and has the size to bully Wemby inside. He’s a literal vaccum on the boards averaging 12 rebounds per night, and has flashed improved playmaking chops lately with 12 assists over his past four starts.

Of course, there’s always the risk of foul trouble whenever you’re tasked with guarding Wembanyama, but Clingan has exceeded 4 fouls only once all season, and has cleared this prop line in all but one game where he scored double-digit points.
