Week 1 CFL action continues tonight as the Blue Bombers and Stampeders square off on Friday Night Football in Calgary. BetMGM Alberta has pegged the Stampeders as short home underdogs, which I believe opens up a major betting opportunity to get points backing who I believe is the superior team.

I’m betting Calgary +1.5 tonight, expecting them to continue their recent dominance over their West Division rival. Stamps QB Vernon Adams Jr. lit up the Blue Bombers defense a season ago, while veteran Winnipeg pivot Zach Collaros is starting to show his age. Collaros is coming off a career worst 16 INT campaign, where he threw only 17 TD. The Blue Bombers offense was stuck in the mud in their two preseason contests, giving bettors little reason to expect they can keep up with Adams and Co.

Let’s start with Adams. He’s fresh off a 4,200+ yard passing season, and threw for 733 yards and 7 TD versus Winnipeg in three starts last year. He’ll have to make due without top receiver Reggie Begelton in this matchup, but he still has enough reliable weapons to shred the Blue Bombers secondary.

Adams also brings a dual threat element into this matchup, and is just a few rushing yards short of 2,000 for his career. Calgary also boasts last year’s leading rusher Dedrick Mills, and I expect plenty of success for the Stamps both through the air and on the ground.

On the other side of the ball, what will Winnipeg’s offense look like now that the regular season is here? The Blue Bombers were outgained by nearly 200 yards in both exhibition games last month, while Collaros didn’t throw a TD pass in his limited duty. The former MOP will likely be under heavy duress tonight, as the Stamps defensive line is arguably the best in the CFL. That unit gave him fits in 2025, as he managed just one TD in his three starts versus them.

Led by Jayon Hutchings, Folarin Orimolade and Clarence Hicks, Calgary’s front has the ingredients to cave in the Winnipeg front. The trio, plus strong secondary play has the Stamps poised to improve on their +9 turnover differential from last season. With Collaros showing his age, the Blue Bombers would be wise to feed Brady Oliveira, who’s looking to rebound from his worst statistical season in four years.

Ultimately, I think the wrong team is favored here. Calgary is younger, with more talent under center and on defense. Bet365 Alberta has these teams neck and neck in the Grey Cup odds, and given the Stamps dominance over Winnipeg last season and their home field advantage, I’ll gladly take them getting points.

• Tim White Under 51.5 Receiving Yards (-115 at Caesars)

Moving over to the props market, where I’m fading Winnipeg newcomer Tim White. The veteran wideout’s receiving yards prop is currently listed at 51.5 yards at Caesars Sportsbook Alberta, but that’s a number I can’t get to given his lack of on field time with Collaros.

White was targeted only three times in the preseason, and will be behind Nic Demski, Jalen Philpot and Ontaria Wilson in the pass catching hierarchy. It will take him time to develop chemistry with Collaros, and with the Stamps secondary clamping down on Winnipeg’s receivers, and their pass rush bearing down on Collaros, White is poised to underwhelm in this spot.
