- Brazil ride Vinicius Jr’s four-goal tournament into the Round of 16
- Norway lean on Erling Haaland, who has scored in every game
- See my three Brazil vs Norway goalscorer picks for Sunday, July 5
Brazil and Norway meet in the Round of 16 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey at 4:00 pm ET on Sunday, July 5. The Selecao topped Group C with wins over Scotland and Haiti and a draw with Morocco, then fought back to beat Japan 2-1 in the Round of 32.
Norway are the dark horse. They won three of four matches to reach this stage, capped by Erling Haaland’s late winner in a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast. Oddly, Brazil have never beaten Norway at a World Cup, going winless in four previous meetings.
This one pits two of the tournament’s top scorers against each other. Below are my two Brazil picks and one Norway pick, with the rationale and best prices for each.
Brazil vs Norway Anytime Goalscorer Picks & Props to Bet
All three of my picks sit in plus-money, which is a gift when two of the three are among the tournament’s leading scorers. Brazil are favorites on the three-way moneyline, but both attacks have enough firepower to get on the sheet, so I am shopping the goalscorer market rather than laying the juice.
Vinicius Jr Anytime Goalscorer (43¢ / +133 at Kalshi)
Vinicius is the engine of this Brazil side and my favorite play on the card at 43 cents. He has four goals in four appearances, the most of any Brazilian at the tournament, and he scored in all three group games.
His pace down the left is a nightmare in transition, and Norway have shown they will concede chances. Vinicius became the first Brazilian since Ronaldo and Rivaldo in 2002 to score in all three group games at a World Cup.
Getting the Selecao’s leading scorer at plus-money, +133, is strong value for a player this involved. I am happy to back him to find the net again.
Erling Haaland Anytime Goalscorer (44¢ / +127 at Kalshi)
Backing anyone against Brazil takes nerve, but Haaland is the exception. He has five goals in four appearances and has scored in every one of Norway’s games at this World Cup, including the 86th-minute winner that beat Ivory Coast.
Norway funnel everything through him, and he only needs one clean look to cash. He has scored in each of his last 13 competitive internationals, and he is the fastest player to reach 60 international goals, doing it in 53 games.
Brazil scraped past Japan rather than shutting the door. At +127, the tournament’s most reliable striker is worth the ticket.
Matheus Cunha Anytime Goalscorer (28¢ / +257 at Kalshi)
Cunha is my longer-priced Brazil dart at 28 cents. If Norway load up on Vinicius, the space opens for Brazil’s other forwards, and Cunha has three goals in four appearances to show he can punish it.
He gives Ancelotti a second finisher who stays central and gets into the box. Brazil should see plenty of the ball against a Norway side that has leaned on Haaland to outscore opponents rather than defend leads. A quarter on Cunha pays out at +257 if he gets on the end of one.
Brazil vs Norway Tournament Form
Brazil have not always convinced under Carlo Ancelotti, but they keep winning. They topped their group and needed a stoppage-time goal to see off Japan, so this is a side that finds a way even when it is not at its best.
Norway are chasing history. Beating Ivory Coast gave them their first World Cup knockout win, and Haaland has been the difference in nearly every match. Ståle Solbakken’s team will look to the 1998 side that famously beat Brazil 2-1, the last time these two met at a World Cup.
That history is the hook here. Brazil are favorites and rightly so, but a Norway team built around the tournament’s hottest striker is exactly the kind of opponent that has troubled the Selecao before.
