Brussels is preparing for a major change in its casino landscape after the City of Brussels awarded a 15-year operating concession to ECK NV, the company behind Napoleon Games. This change will see the new operator officially take over the flagship venue on January 1, 2027, replacing Viage, which has managed the casino since 2010.

The concession decision followed a competitive tender process initiated by the city, which attracted six bids, including one from Viage, a subsidiary of Casinos Austria International. Viage had hoped to retain control but will now vacate the premises by the end of 2026, marking the end of a 17-year tenure.

Strategic Expansion and Market Position

Napoleon Games, owned by Romanian gaming group Superbet since 2021, already operates the casino in Knokke-Heist and manages 25 arcades across Belgium, employing approximately 400 staff. The acquisition of the Brussels casino strengthens the operator’s footprint in the Belgian land-based casino market, providing a platform for both entertainment and gaming expansion.

Located on Boulevard Anspach in the heart of Brussels’ pedestrianized city center, the 14,300-square-meter venue is one of only nine Belgian casinos holding a Class I gambling licence, which permits a full range of casino gaming operations. According to Le Soir, citing Viage, the casino attracts more than 310,000 visitors annually, establishing it as a key player in the capital’s entertainment and tourism sectors.

The Land and Economic Affairs Authority assessed the concession at €750 million, excluding VAT, highlighting the commercial value and strategic importance of the property within the city’s urban core.

City of Brussels Supports the Transition

City officials emphasized their satisfaction with the decision, citing the casino’s contribution to local tourism, the economy, and cultural events. A press release noted that this transition supports the continued development of a landmark venue that serves both residents and international visitors, ensuring the casino remains a prominent entertainment destination in Brussels.

For Napoleon Games, the concession represents a strategic opportunity to consolidate and expand its operations in Belgium. Superbet’s acquisition aligns with its broader portfolio strategy, integrating land-based and arcade gaming properties under one operational umbrella. The move will enable Napoleon Games to introduce new entertainment offerings, optimize operational efficiencies, and further enhance the customer experience at one of Belgium’s most prominent casino venues.

The transition also offers potential for innovative programming, events, and partnerships that could leverage the casino’s prime city-center location. With a well-established food and beverage sector and event spaces, the venue provides a comprehensive entertainment experience that goes beyond traditional gaming.

Looking Ahead

As the handover date approaches, stakeholders, including employees, customers, and local authorities, are preparing for a seamless transition. Napoleon Games’ experience in managing casino operations across Belgium positions it to maintain service quality while exploring opportunities for expansion and modernization. The move reinforces the operator’s commitment to growth and highlights the strategic importance of regulated land-based gaming in Europe.

With the Brussels casino officially changing hands in January 2027, the city anticipates continued economic and social contributions from this historic entertainment venue under Napoleon Games’ management, ensuring it remains an iconic destination for years to come.
