Brettski stood just inside the casino doors, the automatic whoosh behind him sounding like a countdown clock hitting zero. In his pocket: $5,000. In his head: one goal—turn it into $10,000 or die trying (financially, emotionally, spiritually).
He started safe. Too safe. Blackjack. Two hands at $200 a pop. First shoe? Ice cold. Dealer pulling twenty after twenty like it was scripted. Brettski muttered to himself, dipped into superstition, changed seats, blamed the lighting. Down $1,200 in fifteen minutes.
“Okay,” he said, smiling the dangerous smile. “We pivot.”
He moved to roulette. One spin. Red. Win. Another spin. Black. Lose. Third spin—he pushed a reckless stack on green. The ball bounced, danced, teased… and missed by a whisper. Just like that, momentum gone. Bankroll now hovering at $2,900.
Most people would slow down.
Brettski sped up.
He spotted it across the floor: a Huff N’ Puff Money Mansion machine. The kind that ruins lives or changes them forever. The Major was high. The Mini was teasing. The seat was open, like it was waiting.
He loaded $2,000 in. Spin one—nothing. Spin two—tease city. Spin three—bonus symbols started landing… one… two… the screen shook.

The casino noise faded. The bonus meter climbed. $3,000… $4,200… $6,800. Brettski stood up, hands on his head. One more house and he’d crack $10K total.
