Danny Tang Gets Emotional After Winning $3.5 Million in Triton Main Event

Triton ambassador Danny Tang won his second tour Main Event title as he took down the $100,000 buy-in Main Event at the Triton Super High Roller Series in Montenegro for a career-best $3,522,000.

Tang, who previously won 2023’s $50,000 Short Deck Hold’em Main Event in Cyprus for $750,000, adds to his $38.8 million in Hendon Mob earnings and maintains his first-place spot on the Hong Kong all-time money list after defeating heads-up opponent Klemens Roiter.

The event drew 159 runners for a prize pool of $15,900,000. The stacked final table included a number of notable high-stakes crushers, including Poker Hall of Famer Patrik Antonius (7th – $595,000), Bulgarian high-stakes pro Alex Kulev (8th – $431,000) and German wunderkind Leon Sturm (4th – $1,636,000).

“Triton is in My Blood”

The 33-year-old got visibility emotional after the final hand was dealt, burying his head in his hands on the table amid celebratory fog and strobe lights.

“It didn’t go my way last time (earlier in the series), but today, redemption,” Tang told Triton in a winner’s interview.

It was no easy path to redemption. Tang held the chip lead at one point but surrendered most of his stack after running a massive bluff against third-place finisher Ye Wang ($1,636,000).

“When I went down to seven BBs after bluffing Wang Ye earlier, I was, ‘Urgh, man, I blew another chip lead, another good spot,'” Tang told Triton. “But then I got lucky, I kept myself together, and kept fighting. I said to myself, ‘If I can double up once, I’m in this.’ And eventually cards went my way.'”

Tang overcame a heads-up deficit before a final hand where he limp-called on the button with ace-jack as Roiter jammed with ace-seven. A safe runout confirmed his victory in the Montenegro Main Event after finishing runner-up in the same event in 2019 to Bryn Kenney for a previous career-high score of $1.8 million.

“Even heads-up I was a huge dog. I was saying to my friends I have no pressure,” said Tang. “When I started to take the lead heads-up, I didn’t want to have expectation again, but I could feel it was going very smooth. I had one pip better than him. I was making hands. He’s an incredible player, but cards went my way today.”

The Triton ambassador also gave a shoutout to the premiere high-stakes poker brand: “Triton is in my blood, in my veins. I love Triton. My career would not have been what it is without Mr Paul [Phua] and the whole Triton family.”

Tang isn’t the only young pro to shine at the Triton Montenegro festival. Earlier in the series, 31-year-old Adrian Mateos shipped the $200,000 Triton Invitational for $6,370,000, moving to seventh on the poker all-time money list.
