Detroit casino revenue rose 11.5% in March from February, but the market still recorded its lowest March total in five years at $112.3 million.
The three commercial casinos in Detroit reported $111.5 million in table games and slots revenue, along with $810,424 in retail sports wagering qualified adjusted gross receipts, according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
March table games and slots revenue fell 4.5% from March 2025. The March total was also below the market’s recent high for the month, when Detroit casinos generated $123.9 million in March 2024.
For the first quarter of 2026, table games and slots revenue was down 0.8% from the same period last year.
MGM Grand Detroit keeps top share
MGM Grand Detroit held a 47% share of Detroit’s casino market in March. MotorCity Casino accounted for 31%, while Hollywood Casino at Greektown held 22%.
MGM Grand Detroit reported $51.9 million in table games and slots revenue, down 3.5% from March 2025. MotorCity Casino posted $34.9 million, down 2.7%. Hollywood Casino at Greektown recorded $24.7 million, down 8.9%.
All three operators posted lower year-over-year revenue in their main gaming segment.
Retail sports betting posts higher activity
Retail sports wagering remained a small share of total casino revenue, though March activity increased.
Detroit casinos reported $8.95 million in retail sports betting handle. That generated $826,098 in gross receipts and $810,424 in qualified adjusted gross receipts.
Hollywood Casino at Greektown led March retail sports betting QAGR with $425,105. MotorCity Casino followed with $218,643. MGM Grand Detroit posted $166,676.
Tax payments exceed $22 million
The three casinos paid $9 million in state gaming taxes tied to March table games and slots revenue. They also paid $13.3 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the city. Retail sports wagering generated another $30,634 in state taxes and $37,442 in payments to the city of Detroit.
