A dispute involving alleged direct messages between Eric Trump and UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) commentator Daniel Cormier drew attention ahead of UFC Freedom 250 at the White House, with both men later rejecting the authenticity of the screenshots that circulated online.
The controversy began when posts appearing on Cormier’s X account showed screenshots of a conversation allegedly involving Trump, the son of U.S. President Donald Trump. The images appeared to depict Trump seeking information about fighters on the UFC Freedom 250 card and asking whether any contests were predetermined.
One of the alleged messages asked, “Who you got winning?” Another read, “Are any of the fighters injured that you know of?” The exchange later escalated to the question, “I’ll just cut to the chase. Are any of the fights tomorrow rigged?”
The screenshots were accompanied by a statement attributed to Cormier that read: “I’m probably going to get a lot of flak for bringing this to light, however I refuse to stay silent. Shame on anyone trying to ruin this beautiful event.”
Another version of the post circulating online included a longer statement attributed to the former UFC champion: “I’m probably going to get a lot of flak for bringing this to light, however, I refuse to stay silent. The UFC is a sport that I am deeply passionate about I will not tolerate this type of insider behavior. Shame on anyone trying to ruin this beautiful event.”
The posts were removed shortly after appearing online, though screenshots and recordings were widely shared by social media users and MMA-focused accounts. Several people within the mixed martial arts community reported seeing the posts before they disappeared.
Trump and Cormier Push Back Against Screenshots
Eric Trump quickly rejected the claims and said the images did not represent a genuine conversation.
“This is completely fake! I have never reached out to Daniel. In fact, this is scary,” Trump wrote on X.
He later added: “We are aware of the fake, AI generated screenshots being circulated online. I have never spoken to Daniel. He has since deleted his post, which confirms it was clearly fabricated.”
A spokesperson for the Trump Organization also disputed the authenticity of the images. Kimberly Benza wrote: “These screenshots are fake. They were fabricated and do not reflect reality. This is one of the dangers of AI-generated content: false information can spread quickly when people don’t verify what they’re seeing. Please do better before sharing misinformation.”
Cormier also appeared to dismiss the screenshots before the event began. In a separate social media post, he wrote: “Are people really this dumb?”
Following the conclusion of UFC Freedom 250, Cormier addressed the situation again in comments captured by political correspondent Nicholas Ballasy.
“They’re not real, I can’t believe you guys believed that,” Cormier said according to BBC. “I got hacked or something, who believes stuff like this?”
In another version of his remarks, Cormier stated: “Not real. I can’t believe you guys believed that. I got hacked or something.”
A Trump Organization spokesperson later said that “it looks like Daniel’s X account has been hacked.”
Event Continues Despite Online Controversy
The incident unfolded in the hours before UFC Freedom 250, a historic event staged on the South Lawn of the White House. The card was held as part of celebrations connected to the 250th anniversary of American independence and took place on President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.
Eric Trump attended the event in Washington, D.C. Cormier, a former UFC light-heavyweight and heavyweight champion, worked on the broadcast team and provided commentary throughout the evening.
Neither the UFC nor the White House offered detailed public responses regarding the matter. The UFC declined comment after the event, while the White House did not respond to a request for comment. Dana White, the president and CEO of UFC, is in a long-standing public relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump. White has recently urged the president to reverse a federal tax provision that limits gambling loss deductions.
The allegations carried particular significance because UFC policy prohibits employees from participating in betting activity connected to UFC events. Sharing confidential information for gambling purposes could also raise legal concerns.
