  • The Lakers have won both games so far in Las Vegas
  • The Clippers toppled the Jazz in their most recent game
  • Keep reading for my Clippers vs Lakers expert picks on Tuesday, July 14

The usual City of Angels clash has made its way to Summer League with the Los Angeles Clippers (1-1) battling the Los Angeles Lakers (2-0) on Tuesday, July 14, at 10:00 pm ET, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Both teams feature players on the fringes of 2027 NBA Rookie of the Year odds. Keaton Wagler, whom the Clippers took with the fifth pick of the draft, is eighth in ROY odds at +3000; Cameron Carr (picked by the Knicks, then traded to the Lakers) is 11th at +10000.

The Clippers have five Rookies of the Year in their franchise history, but only one (Blake Griffin) has won since the team moved to Los Angeles. As great as the Lakers have been, only one Laker (Elgin Baylor, 1959) has won Rookie of the Year – an award dating back to the club’s days in Minneapolis.

I have laid out my Clippers vs Lakers picks below, along with the odds for this Summer League clash.

Clippers vs Lakers Expert Picks

Moneyline Pick: Lakers to Win (+133, Kalshi)

Exhibition games can be difficult to bet on, given that the desired outcome (experience and growth) might not align with winning and losing. With this in mind, I am backing the underdog Lakers on the moneyline. Unlike the regular season – or particularly the playoffs – winning in the Summer League could be secondary to the team’s wishes. Look no further than the Wizards shutting No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa down halfway through Summer League.

The Clippers and Lakers are making no such moves with their top rookies. Both Keaton Wagler and Cameron Carr are slated to play tonight. In essence, I am taking +133 odds to win a coin flip of an exhibition game.

For what it’s worth, the Lakers are one of four teams who are undefeated in Summer League (Hawks, Warriors, and Wizards). The top four teams in Las Vegas will advance to the tournament’s semifinals on July 18. The Lakers last won Summer League in 2017 when Kyle Kuzma and Lonzo Ball headlined the squad.

Game-Total Pick: Under 179.5 (-110, bet365)

Through two Summer League games for both teams, scoring has been inconsistent. In Clipper games, an average of 181.0 points has been scored. In Laker games, this mark slips to 170.5 per game. Occasionally, Summer League games can turn into free-throw fests because there is a more lenient foul-out rule. I’ll take my chances with the under, however.

It’s worth noting that Summer League games are introducing the G League rule of “one free throw in most situations,” which can increase variance on free throws in a given game. Rather than taking two (or three) foul shots after being fouled on a miss, players will take one free throw worth two (or three) points – until the last two minutes of the fourth quarter.

Given the general low-scoring seen in Laker games in Summer League, I will lean toward the under tonight.

Clippers vs Lakers Odds

For this Summer League bout, the Clippers are slight favorites. Clippers bettors can back them at -3.5 on the spread for -105 odds or -155 odds on the moneyline. Lakers bettors can take them at +3.5 on the spread for -115 odds or on the moneyline for +130 odds.

The total is set at 178.5 points. Over bettors can take over 178.5 for -115 odds. Under bettors can take under 178.5 for -105 odds.

How to Watch: Clippers vs Lakers

Fans can tune in to Amazon Prime Video to catch this all-Los Angeles affair at 10:00 pm ET. Rather than the usual Intuit Dome or Crypto.com Arena, this battle will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, for both the Clippers’ and Lakers’ third game of the Las Vegas Summer League.
