The first table was blackjack. Brettski pressed immediately—five figures a hand. The cards came hot. A double-down hit. Then another. In less than ten minutes, the stack in front of him had doubled. Robby grinned. “Told you,” he said, tapping the table twice. Their signal.
Then the shoe turned. Dealers changed. The air shifted. Brettski lost three hands in a row. Then five. He reached for the silver coin, rubbing the worn edge with his thumb. On the next hand, he pushed everything forward. The dealer flipped… a bust. The table gasped. Brettski exhaled for the first time in minutes.
