SEA Mariners vs TOR Blue Jays Probable Starters for Game 7

The probable pitching matchup pits Seattle’s George Kirby against Toronto’s Shane Bieber, a repeat of the pitching matchup in Game 3. Given the way that Kirby was hammered by Toronto in Game 3, though, Seattle manager Dan Wilson could opt to go with the more-experienced Luis Castillo (3.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) on four days’ rest.

Bieber was much better that Kirby when the two squared off last Wednesday in Seattle. The former Cy Young-winner went six strong, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Julio Rodriguez crushed a two-run first-inning home run off the Toronto righty who pitched five scoreless thereafter.

Kirby was absolutely dismantled, allowing eight runs on eight hits (three homers) and three walks over 4.0 IP with four strikeouts. Vladimir Guerrero Jr, George Springer, and Andres Gimenez all took Kirby yard.

Kirby’s career numbers against the Toronto lineup, which already weren’t great, ballooned after his Game 3 start. In 72 total at-bats, the Blue Jays’ hitters have a .310 average and .864 OPS against the 6’4 righty. He hadn’t allowed a home run to anyone on Toronto’s ALCS roster until last Wednesday.

Bieber has excellent career numbers against the Seattle lineup, holding them to a .221 average and miniscule .546 OPS in a massive 131 AB sample size.
