Hard Rock Digital Canada Ltd. has received an official iGaming registration from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), bringing its online sports betting and casino platform closer to debut in the province. The registration, issued on May 14, 2026, is valid for one year until May 13, 2027, and signals Ontario will be the brand’s first Canadian market.

The Hard Rock Bet platform is already live in ten U.S. states, including New Jersey, Michigan, and Florida, offering both online casino and sports betting products. While the Ontario launch date remains unannounced, the registration allows Hard Rock to operate legally in the province once the platform goes live.

Omnichannel Strategy Links Online and Land-Based Operations

The digital expansion follows last year’s opening of the $350 million Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa. The property includes a 150-room hotel, expanded gaming floors, high-limit areas, live table games, multiple dining options, and the Hard Rock Live entertainment venue. The casino offers a physical presence in Ottawa that Hard Rock can leverage to cross-promote its digital platform, engaging players both online and offline.

“Ontario will allow Hard Rock Bet to connect its online offerings with the land-based experience in Ottawa,” said a spokesperson. The launch also raises questions about potential expansion into Alberta, where a competitive online gambling market is scheduled to open on July 13, 2026. Unlike Ontario, Alberta will allow multiple private operators to obtain licenses under a regulated framework.

Regulatory Context and Canadian Online Gambling Landscape
Ontario is currently the only Canadian province with a competitive iGaming market, offering licenses to 44 operators across 76 websites. Outside Ontario, most Canadian online betting is conducted in a “grey market” via offshore platforms, where CAD accounts and consumer protections may not be fully available.

Sports Interaction, based on the Mohawk lands of Kahnawake near Montreal, operates as a regulated Canadian sportsbook under the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. Established in 1997, it allows single-event betting with CAD deposits and withdrawals, offering both online casino and live dealer options. Hard Rock Bet’s entry into Ontario represents a rare opportunity for a U.S.-based operator to legally serve Canadian players in a regulated domestic market.

Integration with Existing Operations

The platform launch is part of Hard Rock’s broader strategy to combine its land-based and online operations for maximum customer reach. The Ottawa casino provides a foundation for omnichannel marketing, while the online platform can tap into Hard Rock’s existing databases and customer base across its U.S. properties.

Although Hard Rock previously explored acquiring PointsBet Canadathe transaction did not materialize. The AGCO registration, however, allows the company to establish its own platform independently. As reported by Covers, the brand has yet to finalize its contract with iGaming Ontario, a required step before the app can go live in the province.

Ontario residents can expect a similar experience to Hard Rock Bet’s U.S. operations, with scalable sportsbook technology and comprehensive online casino offerings. The registration confirms the company’s commitment to bringing a regulated, Canadian-compliant online gaming service to the country.
