A pair of 2-0 teams clash tonight in NBA Summer League play in Vegas, as the Boston Celtics face the Atlanta Hawks. These two clubs have come by their perfect records in very different ways, and online sportsbooks don’t believe that Boston’s current level of play is sustainable. Atlanta is currently listed as a 4.5-point favorite tonight, and I’m going to make the argument that number should actually be higher.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm ET, 3 pm PT inside the Pavilion in Las Vegas, NV, with coverage available on League Pass and Amazon Prime Video.

As of the time of writing, Atlanta is laying -192 odds on the moneyline, with Boston coming back as a +160 favorite. Total-wise, the over/under sits at 175.5, which feels a bit low given the breakneck pace the Hawks want to play at.

Not all wins are created equally and I’m simply not buying this version of the Celtics. I’ll gladly lay 4.5-points with the Hawks in this matchup, as they have the ingredients to turn this contest into a rout.

Let’s start with the Boston side. This team is short on talent this Summer, but long on heart and hustle. Their lone 2026 1st rounder Chris Cenac Jr. is off to a very uneven start to the tournament, struggling with his shot but making up for it on the glass. The Houston product along with second round pick Dillon Mitchell and Hugo Gonzalez have owned the boards this summer, especially on the offensive glass. They’ve helped Boston gobble up 31 rebounds in enemy territory, leading to a plethora of second chance points.

Those extra possessions have been crucial to the Celtics success, as they’ve been dismal from the field. The perennial NBA Championship Odds contender is shooting 35% as a team through two games, and 33% from beyond the arc. They may have bullied smaller Charlotte and Toronto interiors in Games 1 and 2, but they won’t have that luxury versus the Hawks.

Atlanta’s interior size has overwhelmed opponents thus far, helping them to a +17 point average margin of victory through two games, the second best showing in Vegas (behind Golden State).

23rd overall pick Zuby Ejiofor has been a nightmare for the opposition, averaging 12.5 points, 3 blocks and 5 boards per contest. Atlanta has won the rebounding battle in both of their outings, while they’re getting consistent performance from their wings and guards as well.

NBA Rookie of the Year odds contender and 8th overall pick Kingston Flemings has chipped in 13 assists and 8 rebounds so far, and looks comfortable running the offense. Back up guard Kobe Johnson is averaging 14 points per game, with a +14 on court rating, while third year wing Jacob Toppin has given them a lift defensively in addition to double-digit point production.

With twin towers Ejiofor and Asa Newell anchoring the interior, and Flemmings and Johnson running the point, Atlanta simply has too much size and skill for the Celtics to handle.

As for a game-total selection, give me Over 175.5 points. Atlanta was one of the fastest teams during the regular season, and they’ve operated at a blistering pace so far this summer. The Hawks are averaging 67.5 field goal attempts per game, routinely finding their shots early, while getting out in transition whenever they can.

Not to be outdone, Boston has gotten off an average of 78 shots per outing, and much like the regular season, they’re hoisting threes at a ridiculous rate. With both teams averaging in the mid-80’s for points per game this summer, tonight’s contest has shootout written all over it, even if the Celtics offensive rebounding rate takes a hit.
