Brettski walked into the casino with ten thousand dollars in crisp hundreds and the kind of confidence you only borrow from someone else’s luck.
At his side was the legend himself — Rack’em Stack’em Robby — the world-famous, statistically impossible, gravity-defying gambler who hadn’t had a losing trip in two years. Dealers whispered when Robby entered. Pit bosses stood a little straighter. Even the slot machines seemed to hum louder.
They started at high-stakes blackjack. First hand: Robby splits aces. Two blackjacks. Brettski doubles on eleven and pulls a face card. Just like that, they’re up three grand. Cameras rolling. Energy electric.
They press it.
Roulette next. Robby closes his eyes and taps the felt twice. “Section 23,” he says calmly. Brettski dumps $2,000 across the numbers.
The ball spins.
Clacks.
23 red.
The crowd erupts.
They’re up to $18,400 in under forty minutes.
That’s when it happens.
A man in a tailored gray suit approaches. Not security. Not staff. He slides a black casino chip across the table — $5,000 denomination — and looks directly at Robby.
“Mr. Robby,” he says softly, “the owner would like a word. Private game. Back room. No cameras.”
Brettski hesitates. Robby grins. “Luck doesn’t hide,” he says, scooping the chip.
In the back room, the air feels heavier. One table. One dealer. One deck. Minimum bet: five thousand.
Brettski swallows hard as they push half their bankroll forward on the first hand.
The dealer shuffles slowly. Too slowly.
Robby leans in. “Something’s off.”
The dealer flips the first card.
Ace.
Second card.
Ace.
He peeks at the hole card… and smiles.
Brettski feels his stomach drop as the dealer slowly turns over a third card that shouldn’t even be possible.
And the door behind them locks with a click.
