Kevin Martin

When it comes to poker and reality TV, Kevin “Kmart” Martin has a foot firmly in each camp. The former streamer, who appeared in the hit poker show Game of Gold and won Season 5 of Big Brother Canada, is now putting his expertise to use by launching Poker Wars, a new poker competition show.

Airing for free May 21-24 at 2 p.m. MST on the KMartPoker YouTube and Twitch channels, Poker Wars is a live-stream competition that combines poker with a true reality TV game. Among the six contestants slated to compete are familiar poker personalities Jon Pardy, Abby Merk, Hesham “Kiero Loves You” Elkhouly, and Haven Taylor. Video game streamer Jake Straus and wildcard Ali Kebritchi will join them.

There will be betrayal, votes, eliminations, alliances, and drama!

“I’ve had this game in my mind for years. I want a show where players have to play poker but also navigate alliances and their fellow players,” said Martin, who also has appearances on Traitors and The Amazing Race.

“I made Poker Wars as a pure passion project. This is a game I would die to play myself. But there is nothing like this in the poker world. So, I assembled an amazing group of people, and we decided to make it ourselves! It’s a massive production and risk, but the poker world needs this show.”

He added, “We’ve spent so much time on the game design. Even if the cards are landing badly for a player, they can navigate this game with a solid social and strategic mind. The ultimate goal is to bring the game of poker to a wider audience.”

The game, which is being self-funded by Martin, will offer a $50K CAD grand prize. Not only that, he’ll host, commentate, and guide the audience through the experience.

What to Expect

  • Big Brother/Survivor combines with Poker: Poker Wars is a poker game at its heart, but players will have to navigate social strategy similar to Big Brother. Players will compete in poker competitions and gain advantages in the overall game based on their performance.
  • No GTO: It’s a game of personalities, table talk, and off-the-felt strategy. The cast is full of players with personalities, and all of them have something to prove.
  • Game-Changing Mechanics: Organizers have brought in a game-design specialist to curate the entire experience. Powers and Twists will reward quick thinking and adaptable players.
  • Combining IRL and Streaming in One Show: Players will play against each other at a table, and then in the online poker world. The audience will actually be able to register online tournaments and play against the contestants while the show is going on.
Jon Pardy

“This is my dream of what a poker show can be,” Martin concluded. “It’s about the cast and their stories. Their emotions and decisions will drive everything. We’re giving someone a massive bankroll boost for the summer, but they have to walk through fire to get it.”

Be sure to check out Poker Wars from May 21-24 at 2 p.m. MST on the KMartPoker YouTube and Twitch channels.
