Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia has opened enrollment for a six-week Table Games Dealer School, with the inaugural session beginning this week. The property will accept applications for future sessions on an ongoing basis.
The program does not require a college degree or prior casino experience, according to Kevin O’Sullivan, Vice President of gaming operations at the property.
“We are proud to offer this free dealer training program to provide job-seekers 18 years of age and over with the education and skills needed to pursue a long-term, fun career in the gaming industry,” O’Sullivan said.
“Interested applicants do not need casino, gaming or dealer experience to apply to the school. The most important skills are a good attitude and the willingness to learn. Our team can teach you the rest!” he added.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old to enroll.
Coursework includes blackjack and carnival games such as Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, and Mississippi Stud. Students may select a morning session, running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or an evening session, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Licensed instructors teach the classes in accordance with Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board regulations. Topics covered include chip handling, card shuffling, money handling, game security, body mechanics, and responsible gambling practices.
Enrolled students receive a training kit containing instruction manuals, generic chips and cards, and layout felt, along with other materials. The casino also provides free parking and a complimentary meal at each session.
Students who complete the program, pass written and oral examinations, and clear a background check become eligible to audition for dealer positions at the property. Live! Casino Philadelphia noted that completion of the course does not guarantee a job offer.

Other Pennsylvania retail casinos have operated dealer schools in prior years. Happy Valley Casino most recently ran a table games dealer school ahead of its April opening.
