It’s a big month of poker, but it’s not just limited to one event.
Earlier this week, the 2026 BetMGM Poker Championship took place from ARIA in Las Vegas.
The event saw Josh Mammen take home the top prize, but the final results took an interesting turn, as the last five players agreed to a five-way chop to allow each to take home a sizable six-figure prize.
Final Five Players Win Over $430,000
Mammen, a San Diego native, won the BetMGM Poker Championship out of a field of 1,512 entries.
He bested Erik Eisen in heads-up play as the final two remaining in the tournament.
However, pressure was off both players in terms of prize money, as the five-way chop allowed all players to take home over $400,000.
A chop in poker is where two or more players agree to split the remaining prize pot equally. In this case, the final five agreed to that, allowing the eventual winner to take an additional $50,000 over the rest.
Mammen still earned a top prize of $481,180, but Eisen, Paul Hofer, Nick Palma, and Ariel Celestino all brought home $431,180.
Had the chop not been agreed to, Mammen would have taken home over $800,000 for his victory out of a total prize pool of $4.8 million.
“Congratulations to Josh Mammen on an incredible run to capture the BetMGM Poker Championship title,” said David Mileaf, Director of Poker at BetMGM in a press release. “From surpassing the guarantee to the five-way chip chop at the final table, this event showcased the excitement, drama, and camaraderie that make tournament poker so special. Summer in Las Vegas has always meant poker, and BetMGM is proud to be building something lasting within that tradition.”
BetMGM Online Poker Brings in 92 Qualifiers
The field of over 1,500 players had 92 players advance to ARIA through online qualifiers using BetMGM Poker in New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ontario.
Along with their entry into the tournament, qualifiers also got a five-night stay at ARIA, travel credits, and a BetMGM swag bag.
Six of the 92 online qualifiers cash in during the event. Connor Boyle was the top placer of the online qualifiers, as he finished 24th to earn $14,000.
Terry Brennan earned $12,920 for his efforts after qualifying for the event by winning a $5 tournament.
