Bluff had one rule before they walked into the casino.
“If we somehow win something life-changing today,” he laughed, “I’m carrying the giant check out myself.”
Brettski rolled his eyes. “The odds of that happening are basically zero.”
Three hours later, neither of them were laughing.
The session started rough. A few cold slot machines drained their bankroll faster than expected. Every bonus seemed to pay the absolute minimum, and Bluff was already joking about stopping for fast food on the drive home because “at least we’d win something.”
Then Brettski spotted a machine tucked into the corner of the high-limit room.
It hadn’t been touched all day.
No players nearby. No attendants. Just an enormous progressive jackpot sitting at an eye-watering number.
Bluff looked at it for a second.
“…This machine feels weird.”
“Weird good or weird bad?”
“I don’t know… but I think we have to try it.”
They loaded in.
First spin…
Nothing.
Second…
Nothing.
Ten minutes later they were questioning every decision they’d made.
Then, completely out of nowhere…
The screen exploded.
Golden coins covered every reel.
Lights flashed so brightly that people from halfway across the casino started walking over before they even knew what had happened.
A deafening siren echoed through the entire room.
“JACKPOT HANDPAY.”
Neither of them moved.
Bluff looked at Brettski.
“…Is this real?”
The amount on the screen kept climbing.
$20,000…
$50,000…
$100,000…
It finally stopped on a number so ridiculous that both of them just stared in complete silence.
Within minutes, casino employees surrounded the machine.
Security arrived.
A slot attendant asked them to stay seated.
Then someone said the words neither of them expected.
“We’re bringing out the presentation check.”
Bluff completely lost it.
“No way… THE MOVIE CHECK?!”
Five employees rolled out an absolutely gigantic ceremonial check—so large it barely fit through the aisle between slot machines.
Other gamblers stopped playing just to record the moment.
People started clapping.
The casino photographer lined them up.
Brettski grabbed one side.
Bluff grabbed the other.
The photographer counted down.
“Three… two… one…”
Just before the flash went off…
One of the employees suddenly sprinted toward them yelling,
“WAIT! DON’T TAKE THE PICTURE!”
The entire casino froze.
Everyone looked back at the slot machine.
The jackpot amount on the screen…
had completely changed.
