After smashing the monthly revenue record in December, Michigan online casinos took a step back in January, but still posted the second-highest revenue in state iGaming history.
Last month, MI online casinos recorded $298.3 million in revenue. That was well behind December’s $315.8 million, but still a 20.2% increase compared to January 2025 ($248.2 million).
A Breakdown January’s MI Online Casino Revenue
The Michigan iGaming revenue, along with all other gambling revenue, is released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) each month.
Here’s a closer look at January’s numbers coming from the MGCB.
State tax revenue from January was $54.6 million, while another $20.2 million was generated for city/local jurisdictions. Recently, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer proposed an increase to iGaming tax rates in her Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
Hard Rock Bet Drops Back, but Stays Fourth
One of big highlights of December’s revenue report was Hard Rock Bet Casino debuting in Michigan with $35.7 million in its first month. That was a record for any online casino operator in the state for its first full month of revenue.
January was going to provide interesting insight for where Hard Rock settled. While it dropped back to $23.1 million, that still placed it fourth overall among Michigan operators for the month.
Through two months of operation, Hard Rock has generated $58.8 million in revenue under the license of the Hannahville Indian Community. That is already more than the previous operators (TwinSpires/SI) generated in the five years prior. From January 2021-November 2025, the Hannahville license holder only amassed $54.7 million in online casino revenue.
