- The Heat posted, then deleted, a video titled “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference”
- Miami calls it a mistake, but fans keep pointing at the July 27 date attached to the video
- Keep reading for Miami’s odds to land LeBron James, plus the rest of the board
The Heat may have spoiled the biggest decision of the NBA offseason. On Tuesday, Miami’s official YouTube channel posted a scheduled video titled “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference | July 27, 2026,” then deleted it within minutes.
The organization insists it was unintentional. A team spokesperson told reporters the social media staff had been putting together content in case James signs, and the link went live by mistake.
So what are Miami’s odds to land LeBron James now that the internet has seen the screenshots? Let’s break down the market.
Miami Heat Odds to Land LeBron James
Miami’s Yes shares currently trade at 50 cents on Kalshi. Since each share pays out $1 if the Heat land him, 50 cents translates directly to a 50% implied probability — basically a coin flip, or +100 in sportsbook terms.
Cleveland comes in second at 27%, followed by Golden State at 13% and Philadelphia at 9%. Minnesota is the only other team registering above a penny, while James staying with the Lakers or retiring outright both sit under 1%.
This isn’t some thin market either. Over $201 million has already been wagered on where LeBron lands next, an enormous total for one free agency decision.
Odds via Kalshi on July 22. Grab the Kalshi promo code if you want in before LeBron makes his call.
Inside the Heat’s Leaked LeBron Press Conference
The now-deleted video linked to a livestream that wasn’t actually running, and its thumbnail came from Dwyane Wade’s statue ceremony. According to reports, the description welcomed James “back as a member of the Miami HEAT”.
James announced he was parting ways with the Lakers on June 30 after eight seasons, and he’s stayed largely quiet since. It’s his first unrestricted free agency since 2018, so a desperate fanbase treated the YouTube upload as basically a confirmed signing.
Not everyone’s buying Miami’s explanation, though. Fans keep asking why a placeholder video would need a specific date, and July 27 happens to be five days away.
Why the Market Likes Miami’s Chances
The leaked video is far from the only thing driving Miami’s odds to land LeBron James. Pat Riley said last week that both he and Giannis Antetokounmpo would love to have him, and ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins reported the Heat currently top LeBron’s list.
The 41-year-old also knows what winning in South Beach feels like, having led the Heat to back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. A reunion would put him alongside Giannis and Bam Adebayo, and Chiney Ogwumike believes that combination would let him thrive as a lead ball handler.
Miami has kept building around the possibility too, re-signing Andrew Wiggins and Simone Fontecchio while adding Bobby Portis and Tim Hardaway Jr.
Nobody knows when the announcement comes, including his own agent. Rich Paul said Monday a decision “could be 48 seconds, it could be 48 minutes,” brushing off Adam Silver’s push for a quick answer. Kalshi traders give it a 47% chance of arriving before the leaked July 27 date, and 58% before July 28.
Cleveland, Philadelphia and Golden State are all still lurking on prediction markets, so nothing is settled. Still, I’d rather buy Miami Yes shares at 50 cents today than pay a premium once an official report surfaces.
