- DraftKings is offering $100,000 to first place on a $20 entry for the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway
- A “stack the back” strategy loads up on Toyota drivers with massive place-differential upside on the drafting track
- Below, see our NASCAR DFS picks, projections, lineup, and strategy for the Quaker State 400
I turn 40 on Sunday.
I’m still at the age where I’d be thrilled to unwrap a giant LEGO set, but I have a sneaking suspicion I’m about to enter the “white New Balances and lawn care equipment” phase of life. Somewhere between “Arkham Asylum” and “mulch spreader,” adulthood finally catches all of us.
Thankfully, before I spend my birthday arguing about fertilizer, we’ve got one more superspeedway DFS slate to build.
Atlanta has become one of the most entertaining races on the NASCAR schedule. The drafting keeps the field packed together all night, cautions can erase an afternoon’s worth of work in seconds and the fastest car isn’t always the one sitting out front.
That’s important for DraftKings.
Unlike a traditional intermediate track, the fastest laps often come from cars charging through the draft after restarting or making runs from the back of the lead pack. Instead of sitting in clean air, drivers can pile up fastest laps while slicing through traffic, making place differential just as valuable as raw finishing position.
That’s why we’re embracing a “stack the back” strategy this week.
Even better, our model loves Toyota.
The manufacturer owns the strongest overall superspeedway rating in our model this week, placing all five Toyota entries inside the top 11 of the power rankings. Four of those five crack the top eight. When Joe Gibbs Racing and 23XI Racing commit to working together, they’re capable of controlling long stretches of these races, and we’re happy to build around that strength.

Quaker State 400 Expert DFS Projections
Tyler Reddick ($10,500) | Starting Position: 31st
If we’re paying five figures for anyone, it’s Reddick.
He starts 31st but owns one of the highest ceilings on the slate with our model projecting him to finish 12.7. That’s nearly 20 spots of potential place differential before we even factor in fastest laps.
The comparable-track numbers support it. Reddick has consistently been one of the strongest superspeedway racers in the field, and with Toyota grading as the top manufacturer entering Atlanta, we expect the No. 45 to spend plenty of time moving toward the front.
Christopher Bell ($9,500) | Starting Position: 32nd
Bell checks every box we want.
Starting 32nd immediately creates elite place differential upside, while our weekly model projects him to finish 14.8. Joe Gibbs Racing also brings one of the premier pit crews in NASCAR, a valuable edge during green-flag pit cycles where losing the draft can ruin an otherwise perfect race.
Bell doesn’t need to dominate.
He simply needs to survive long enough for the speed to show up, and history says it usually does.
Denny Hamlin ($9,100) | Starting Position: 28th
Hamlin almost feels automatic on drafting tracks.
He starts 28th, projects to finish 15.6 and remains one of the smartest superspeedway racers in the garage. Few drivers manage the draft better, and his experience consistently puts him in position late in these races.
The pit crew is another bonus. Joe Gibbs Racing continues to excel on pit road, making it easier to maintain track position when the field cycles through green-flag stops.
Bubba Wallace ($7,900) | Starting Position: 22nd
This may be our favorite value on the board.
Wallace starts 22nd but projects sixth overall in our weekly model with a projected finish of 12.7. That’s an incredible combination of upside and salary relief.
He’s also one of the better pure drafting-track racers in NASCAR. When Toyota teammates link up, Wallace is almost always in the conversation near the front.
At this price, we’re happy to take another piece of the Toyota stack.
Zane Smith ($6,800) | Starting Position: 34th
Every Atlanta lineup needs someone capable of quietly outperforming expectations.
Smith starts 34th and projects to finish 23.5, giving us another driver with double-digit place differential upside.
He doesn’t have to contend for the win.
He simply needs to stay connected to the draft, avoid the “Big One” and keep collecting positions throughout the evening.
Cody Ware ($5,000) | Starting Position: 35th
Let’s be honest.
Nobody is building around Cody Ware.
We’re building around what Cody Ware allows us to do.
Starting 35th at the minimum salary gives us another inexpensive place differential play while freeing enough cap space to roster four drivers our model grades extremely well. If Ware survives the attrition that almost always comes with an Atlanta race, he’ll do exactly what we need.
Sometimes DFS analysis is complicated.
Sometimes it’s just, “Please keep all four fenders attached.”
Quaker State 400 NASCAR DFS Strategy
Superspeedway DFS rewards patience more than perfection.
Instead of chasing pole sitters, we’re targeting proven drafting-track drivers with room to move forward. Four Toyotas give us exposure to the manufacturer our model grades highest this week, while Zane Smith and Cody Ware provide the salary flexibility and place differential upside tournament-winning lineups often require.
If Atlanta turns into the chaotic, pack-racing chess match we’ve come to expect, this roster should have plenty of opportunities to climb the leaderboard.
