Hollywood Casino is seeing big revenue gains since moving its Joliet location from a riverboat to a retail casino in August.
Back on Aug. 10, Hollywood Casino Joliet opened up a new $185 million facility. According to the Illinois Gaming Control Board, in its first full month of operation in September, the new operation drew in $11.2 million in adjusted gross revenue, up nearly 50% from the $7.6 million it did as a riverboat casino in September 2024.
The total matched the $11.2 million the new location did in August despite not being open for the whole month.
September’s revenue put it fourth among all Illinois casinos for the month, a positive sign for Hollywood Casino, which is growing in both the retail and online casino spaces.
Joliet Location Giving HC Boost in Illinois
Hollywood Casino features a pair of retail casinos in the state, one in Joliet and another in Aurora.
The new location in Joliet is providing a helpful boost for PENN Entertainment in Illinois.
With a healthy competition that includes Rivers Casino, multiple Harrah’s locations, multiple Bally’s locations, and a Hard Rock Casino, Hollywood Casino is now taking on a bigger piece of the revenue pie in Illinois.
Between the two locations in the state, Hollywood Casino brought in $19.1 million in collective AGR for September.
By comparison, other top casino brands brought in the following:
- Bally’s: $16.2 million through two casinos
- Harrah’s: $12.4 million through two casinos
- DraftKings: $6.6 million through one casino
Rivers Casino led the entire state with $41 million, so Hollywood Casino has some work to do to catch up. However, it’s still a positive step when you consider the brand sat at $15.8 million a year ago.
