“nlfreddie” Takes Down the 888poker $100K Mystery Bounty Sale Week Event

They say that all good things must come to an end, and that was the case with the Sale Week at 888poker. From February 9-16, more than 20 popular multi-table tournaments at 888poker had their buy-ins slashed, most by 50%.

One of those tournaments, the $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event, saw its $109 buy-in reduced to a more affordable $55. The Sale Week price point proved popular, with 1,996 players paying it. While that left a small overlay on the $100,000 guarantee, it was a fantastic turnout.

Day 1 ran on February 15, ending with only eight players seated. All of the biggest mystery bounties were won during the first day’s play. “xquizza” and “Fl4bush20” helped themselves to $3,000 bounties, while Romania’s “cimpilic” opened the golden envelope containing the $10,000 jackpot bounty. That massive sum meant “cimpilic” was the event’s biggest winner.

$100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event Final Table Chip Counts

Unlike in most $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event final tables, there was no runaway chip leader. Nor was there a super short-stack, with “TLuther” bringing up the rear with a still playable 20 big blind stack.

“gixeru” sat down at the final table second in chips with 76 big blinds, but they were somehow the first finalists out the door. Five minutes into the action, they doubled up “marcopaolo” after calling a shove with pocket sixes on a deuce-trey-four flop, only to run into pocket queens.

Fifteen minutes later, “gixeru” jammed all-in for a half-pot-sized bet with king-queen having turned a king, only for “K7deOuro” to snap-call with pocket aces.

The aforementioned “TLuther” was the next player to fall. They open-shoved for 12 big blinds from the small blind with ace-ten of diamonds, and “Marcothx” called with the dominating ace-king. No help arrived for the at-risk player, and the final table was down to six players.

Those six became five when “Con88” ran out of steam. “Con88” squeezed all-in for just over 10 big blinds from the small blind after “Marcothx” had min-raised and “K7deOuro” had called. The initial raiser folded, but “K7deOuro” called the all-in with ace-queen, which was a substantial favourite over “Con88″‘s suited king-queen. “Con88” flopped a flush draw but missed the turn and river to bust in sixth.

Brazil’s “marcospaolo” was the next player relieved of their stack around the 80-minute mark after an ill-timed shove. “nlfreddie” min-raised from under the gun, “K7deOuro” called in the small blind, and “marcospaolo” jammed for 24 big blinds with pocket nines. Unfortunately for the all-in player, “nlfreddie” had min-raised with pocket kings and had one of the easier calls of his career. Call they did, and after “K7deOuro” folded, the board ran jack-high to reduce the player count once more.

Another “Marco,” this time “Marcothx,” crashed out in fourth after a clash with “Klippan11” didn’t go to plan. “Marcothx” open-shoved for nine big blinds from the button with king-trey of hearts, and “Klippan11” called in the small blind with the superior ace-jack. An unnecessary ace on the river eliminated “Marcothx”.

The $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event progressed to heads-up when the active “K7deOuro” bowed out in third. A cooler hand 2 hours and 20 minutes into proceedings saw “nlfreddie” min-raise on the button with ace-king, “Klippan11” call with pocket kings in the small blind, and “K7deOuro” squeeze with pocket nines, leaving only three big blinds behind. “nlfreddie” jammed, “Klippan11” inexplicably folded their pocket kings, but “K7deOuro” tossed in calling chips. An ace on the flop busted “K7deOuro” and gave “nlfreddie” a narrow 45.5 to 40 big blind advantage over “Klippan11” going into heads-up.

“Klippan11” got the better of the early confrontations, but “nlfreddie” reclaimed the lead after flopping a set of nines and getting paid off when “Klippan11” turned an ace with their ace-king. The contest concluded a few hands later.

The final hand saw “Klippan11” limp-call with king-eight of diamonds then raise all-in on a deuce-nine-king flop. “nlfreddie” instantly called with pocket aces, which held through the turn and river to claim the title and a top prize worth $7,228, including bounties.
