- The St. Louis Cardinals attempt to sweep the San Diego Padres in a matinee affair Wednesday, June 17th
- Bradgley Rodriguez and Kyle Leahy toe the rubber for this final game of the series
- Padres vs Cardinals odds, analysis, prediction and MLB player props for two teams jockeying for Wild Card positioning
The St. Louis Cardinals (40-31) and San Diego Padres (37-35) complete their three-game set in St. Louis Wednesday at 2:15 PM ET / 11:15 AM PT. The first two contests have seen the Cards walk away with 3-0 and 3-2 victories over a Padres squad in free-fall (lost 15 of 21).
St. Louis finds themselves as the favorites in the MLB odds to continue to make life miserable for San Diego. See the odds, how the public is wagering on this game, plus my MLB player prop to wager on for this tilt.
Padres vs Cardinals Predictions & Best Bets

- The Pick: Under 10.5 Total Runs (-118 at BetMGM)
I’m going with what’s happened the last seven times these two teams have renewed hostilities, and that’s ten or fewer runs have been scored. The Cards are a middling team in terms of producing runs (14th), while SD is worst in the majors in RBI.
Additionally, the Padres are treating this as a bullpen day, and their opener Bradgley Rodriguez has been solid (2.16 ERA). What gets me interested in the under is that the Padres bullpen ERA is 3.07, second best in MLB, therefore I love the under runs total.

- Player Props Pick: Fernando Tatis Jr Over 1.5 Hits (+145 at BetMGM)
As for the MLB player props, Fernando Tatis Jr has been scorching at the plate with hits in 22 of 27 contests. To record a single hit he has a -350 line, which isn’t enticing at all. To make this wager much more profitable, I’m looking at him snagging two hits in this game. Tatis Jr. has done so in four of his last ten games, meaning his +145 line is well worth the risk to me.
Starting Pitcher Matchup
The Cardinals will lean on Kyle Leahy for traditional length, while the Padres deploy Bradgley Rodriguez as an opener ahead of a bullpen game. Leahy has been a reliable innings-eater for St. Louis but battles consistency issues.
Leahy possesses a solid 5-3 record, but his peripheral numbers tell the story of a pitcher constantly navigating base traffic. A 4.64 ERA supported by a 4.66 FIP indicates he pitches to his true talent level.
Rodriguez has been very consistent with a 2.16 ERA, going two innings just twice on the campaign. However, he hasn’t allowed a run in 23 of 30 outings in 2026.
Padres vs Cardinals Odds & Public Betting Splits
Odds as of June 17 from BetMGM Sportsbook. Click here for a Bet MGM promo code before betting on Padres vs Cardinals.
In the MLB public betting splits, 73% of wagers but just 53% of the handle is on the Cards to be victorious on the moneyline. 80% of tickets and 85% of the moola is on the home squad in the runline market. The over/under selections for bettors dovetails with my prediction of Under 10.5 runs, as 63% of bets and 61% of cash is on that side.
