  • The Philadelphia Phillies are heavy home favorites over the San Diego Padres Wednesday night
  • NL Cy Young favorite Christopher Sanchez looks to continue his torrid pace with his sights set on MLB history
  • See the betting odds and analysis for Padres vs Phillies along with MLB player props

The Philadelphia Phillies (31-29) and San Diego Padres (32-27) renew hostilities Wednesday night, and the visitors will be in tough. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM ET / 3:40 PM PT, and Philly are significant favorites in the MLB odds with NL Cy Young fave Christopher Sanchez toeing the rubber. He hasn’t surrendered a run in 44.2 straight innings, defeating SD on May 27th.

Keep reading for the betting odds, along with my prediction and favorite MLB Player Prop to wager on for this duel.

Padres vs Phillies Predictions and Best Bets

  • The Pick: Phillies Moneyline (-215 at FanDuel)
  • Best Player Prop: Cristopher Sanchez Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-149 at DraftKings)

I’m locked in on the Phillies taking this battle, with Philadelphia winning six of nine and San Diego dropping seven of eight. In addition, the Phils have won five straight vs the Padres (four this season), surrendering just six runs.

Phillies starter Christopher Sanchez has been ridiculous, not allowing a run his last five starts, pitching at least seven innings each time out. The National League leader in the MLB Cy Young Award Odds race has a commanding a 1.47 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP over 79.1 innings. On the other side of the diamond, Walker Buehler has struggled, carrying a 4.88 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP across 51.2 frames.

As for the MLB player props, there’s no reason to move off of Sanchez and his dominant pace. He hasn’t allowed a run in 44.2 straight innings and has his sights set on baseball immortality. He’s thrown for 7+ K’s in nine of twelve contests this year, with twice coming oh-so-close, with six. In his most recent start, Sanchez threw nine strikeouts against this very Padres team.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The MLB probable pitchers show a glaring discrepancy. Sanchez continues to pitch like a top-tier rotation anchor. His 1.82 FIP completely validates his surface-level 1.48 ERA. Recent trends show Sanchez generating an elite 10.32 K/9 while exhibiting excellent control with 1.59 BB/9 over his last 10 appearances.

Conversely, Buehler has struggled to miss bats. Over his last ten games, he is pitching to a 4.72 ERA with just 7.55 K/9. He has averaged only 4.77 innings per start over that stretch, frequently forcing the Padres to rely heavily on middle relief.
