A pair of 9s against a dealer’s 9 is one of the most difficult—and most frequently misplayed—hands in blackjack.
Many players assume they should split every pair of 9s, but basic strategy says otherwise. Against a dealer’s 9, the mathematically correct play is to stand on 18, not split. While splitting is the right move against many dealer upcards, this is one of the important exceptions that every serious blackjack player should know.
