Poker is returning to the Palms Casino in Las Vegas for the first time in over a decade. World Poker Tour is bringing its new “The Victor” live-streamed cash game to the off-Strip property.
The casino’s room closed in 2014 after opening just two years earlier. The entire property closed for several months in 2020 before being purchased by California’s Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation. Red Rock Resorts, the parent company of Station Casinos, sold the property to the tribe for $650 million.
“The Victor” now brings poker back to the property June 4-6 with three days of live-streamed cash games featuring rotating lineups. The cast of players is expected to include poker players, unique personalities, and influencers.
‘Victor’ Is Crowned After 100 Hands
The show brings a few twists on the typical cash game with pot limit play pre-flop and no-limit post-flop. Additionally, each session includes two designated “rivals,” bringing some antagonism to the table.
The games feature blinds of $25-$50, with each rival buying in initially for $5,000. A second $5,000 buy-in is available, but only after the 50th hand.
After 100 hands, the rival with the larger chip stack is crowned “The Victor.” This player collects his or her rival’s entire chip stack.
“One hundred hands. One rivalry. One Victor,” is how the WPT promoted the new cash game show.
Who’s Appearing On ‘The Victor’?
The WPT is attempting to bring an interesting cast of characters together for the action.
The opening day lineup on June 4 features entrepreneur and content producer Roger Nahum, poker vlogger Alexander “Wolfgang Poker” Seibt, actress and writer Nikki Limo, and poker pros Jared Jaffee, Nick Rigby, and Jouhan Allende.
On June 5, viewers can look for poker pros Ryan Depaulo, Kyna England, Lily Kiletto, Rigby, and Limo, along with attorney and poker player Michael “Cinnabon” Ely and vlogger Tim “The Trooper” Watts.
The final day on June 6 features poker pros Kelly Minkin, Tyler Patterson, Rigby, Limo, Nahum, and Kiletto, along with poker player and marketing professional Patrick Harvey.
The games will be streamed on the WPT YouTube channel as well as the company’s social media.
History Of Las Vegas Poker Room Closures
While the WPT is bringing some card-playing action back to the Palms, it doesn’t look like a poker room is returning … at least for now. The Palms was part of a wave of Las Vegas poker room closings after online poker’s Black Friday that included:
- Tropicana (2012)
- M Resort (2013)
- Circus Circus (2013)
- Texas Station (2015)
- Hard Rock (2017)
- Monte Carlo (2017)
- Treasure Island (2018)
The COVID-19 pandemic brought several other closures, including:
- Rio
- Palace Station
- Mirage
- Harrah’s
- Flamingo
- Green Valley Ranch
- Planet Hollywood
- Binion’s
A few rooms have also shuttered recently, including Resorts World in March and the Sahara in 2024. Planet Hollywood closed its poker room again in January after the venue had reopened the venue only a few months earlier.
Green Valley Ranch unveiled a new room in December that remains open.
