Another NBA Playoff quadruple-header is on tap today, with Game 1 featuring the 76ers vs the Celtics in an Eastern Conference clash. Online sportsbooks have pegged Boston as massive home favorites in the NBA odds, in large part due to Joel Embiid sitting out for Philadelphia.

Embiid’s absence leaves a massive hole on the Sixers roster both from a defensive and offensive standpoint, and as a result I’m looking for ways to capitalize on him not dressing in the player props market.

Without their star center, Philly will lean even heavier on Tyrese Maxey to generate offense, which is why he is the focal point of my best player props to target in the 76ers vs Celtics Game 1 matchup. Keep reading to find out which market to bet him in, plus the rest of my picks below.

My favorite NBA props bet is over 25.5 points for Maxey. His shot volume is off the charts in games where Embiid sits, and even though he lacks efficiency, there’s too much opportunity to fade him in this category. Speaking of fading, that’s exactly what I’m doing with Jaylen Brown in the points+rebounds+assists market, as the projected blowout could significantly reduce his offensive ceiling.

Player Props to Target in 76ers vs Celtics

• Tyrese Maxey Over 25.5 Points (-125 at Bet365)
• Jaylen Brown Under 36.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists (-112 at Bet365)

Without Embiid, the Sixers game plan is very simple. Run Maxey into the ground and let him shoot as often as possible. Look no further than the NBA Play-In Tournament game versus the Magic. Maxey played 42 minutes and fired 25 shots. With that kind of volume he doesn’t even need to be efficient, and it doesn’t hurt that he gets to the line 6-8 times on average per game.

The last time he faced Boston without Embiid, Maxey played 43 minutes and fired 34 shots. 11 of those looks were from beyond the arc, and even though he only shot 35% from the floor, he easily cleared 30 points.

Defense is one of the reasons the Celtics are an intriguing NBA Championship odds contender, but they’ve demonstrated they’re more than willing to let Maxey try and play hero ball while eliminating every one else. That doesn’t bode well for Philly’s prospects for winning this game, but it will help me cash this ticket.

Over to Brown, who’s seen a dip in production since Jayson Tatum returned to the lineup. Without Tatum on the floor, Brown averages 41 points+rebounds+assists per game. With Tatum, that number drops to 31.4. Throw in the fact that Boston is a 13-point favorite and Brown could spend the bulk of the 4th quarter on the bench in case of a blowout, and he’s an easy fade in this category.
