Prosecutors in Las Vegas say they intend to seek the death penalty against Dandre Owens, the man they accuse of fatally shooting 29-year-old Brittani Bailey in an MGM Grand hotel room and of luring another man to the desert before executing him there. Both killings occurred in January 2024.

Owens, 30, was indicted for two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon, one count of robbery, one count of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, one count of possessing a silencer/suppressor, one count of obtaining and using personal identification of another to avoid/delay prosecution, one count of theft, one count of forgery, and one count of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. (The last charge stems from a prior conviction for third-degree burglary.)

Owens entered a not guilty plea.

MGM Grand Murder

On January 29, 2024, Owens allegedly took Bailey to an MGM Grand hotel room for sex, then shot her in the back of the head with a firearm equipped with a silencer, according to authorities.

Las Vegas police arrested Owens shortly after, discovering the silencer, a 9mm handgun, a loaded magazine, and Bailey’s Social Security card in his possession. He reportedly identified himself to officers as “John Doe” in an apparent attempt to conceal his identity. A cartridge casing from the scene later linked the weapon to the second murder.

Desert Execution

Earlier that same month, Owens allegedly posted a Craigslist ad that lured Edward Kukish for a “desert trash pickup” job. He drove his victim to a remote area near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pabco Road, shot him twice in the head, stole his cell phone, and abandoned the body.

Kukish’s remains were found seven months later. Ballistic evidence matched Owens’ gun to Bailey’s murder.

Owens remains detained without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. A trial date has not yet been set.
